Moliy Wants The Remixes To Feel Like A Natural Extension Of The Song

We all remember where we were when we saw Moliy, her family, and her friends gyrate their hips to a very unique beat. As the world watched on, I included, to an amazing and varying display of hip swinging, I couldn’t help but wonder if Michael Angelo had any idea what he was doing in the video. But anyway, that was the first video of a series of content that Moliy would go on to release in the promotion of “Shake It To The Max (FLY)”, a song that she will yet release in months to come. Content creation has always been a strong suit for Moliy. She’s one of the few artists who understands the importance of content creation and visual imagery with music. We’ve seen her create content for all of her singles and songs she’s been featured on as well. From slicing bananas with katanas in a yellow dress to gyrating her hips on “Shake It To The Max (FLY)”.

The lead-up to the release of  “Shake It To The Max (FLY)” was a fun time in the Ghanaian music scene. As the music and content aficionado that she is, Moliy would tease the single on socials with multiple videos of her gyrating to it in public places with her face in her palms. The snippet alone had people come together and create content for it. As it continued to trend, multiple creators joined in on the fun, with celebrities like Ms Banks, Ladipoe, and Stonebwoy among others showcasing their gyrating skills, or something close to it. The release of the full song did not disappoint as it gained new fans and listeners every day.

Moliy, since her debut in 2020 with “Wonder Girl”, has gone on to create an amazing catalogue with a spectrum of singles and features. Her vocals on the global hit “Sad Gurlz Love Money” and the remix, thrust Moliy into the spotlight, making her a familiar name in the Ghanaian music scene. Since then, She has gone on to feature and release other great songs such as “9 To 5”, “Shake It”, and “Freak”. The past couple of years have been a testament to Moliy’s lyrical and vocal abilities as she has excelled in different sounds and genres. From R&B to Pop, she has showcased exceptional talent with her verses, proving to everyone that she can be boxed into one genre. She was selected as Spotify EQUAL Ambassador for June 2022 and became a voting member of the Recording Academy.

Today, Moliy releases a remix to “Shake It To The Max (FLY)” with Skillibeng and Shenseea, three months removed from the release of the original track. With the song reaching significant new heights every day, it came as no surprise when we saw Shenseea and Skillibeng, two of the greatest powerhouses in the dancehall scene, as the featured artists on the remix. As we enjoy an amazing mix of lyricism, cadence and vibes on this remix, we know that this is just the start for Moliy. With her vocal and lyrical abilities, work ethic and knack for creating captivating content, the sky is the limit.

For the iMullar, we had a conversation with Moliy on her journey, sound, artistry and the remix to “Shake It To The Max (FLY)”

This interview has been slightly edited for length and clarity.

Since the release of “Wondergirl” in 2020, you’ve gone on to release multiple projects; From “Mahogany St” to “Honey Doom” and have had multiple amazing features with Boj, M.anifest, Kojo Blak, Shekinah, Love Moor, Sneakbo, Joeboy and more. Can you describe your career trajectory in the past 4 years?

Oh wow, when you put it like that, it really does feel like I’ve been leveling up, like I’ve been in music university, graduating from one phase to the next! “Wondergirl” was like the first year, stepping into the game with no fear, just pure vibes, and a dream. Then came “Mahogany St.“, where I got a little more personal, like the next school year when you start figuring yourself out.

By the time “Honey Doom” dropped, I was deep in my creative bag experimenting, evolving, and embracing my full sound. That project felt like a year, where you’re still having fun but also stepping into your power as an artist.

Working with artists like Boj, M.anifest, Shekhinah, and Joeboy gave me the chance to experiment and see how my voice fits into different spaces. I’ve had the freedom to play with everything from Amapiano to R&B, Afro-pop, and even some UK vibes with Sneakbo. It’s been so much fun bouncing off the energy of other talented artists and blending our worlds together.

Now, I feel like I’m entering an era more confident, more intentional, and still having the time of my life. The journey has been so interesting, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. And trust me, there’s so much more coming!

Can you describe how your sound and music have evolved over the years?

When I first started, I was just vibing, experimenting with melodies, and figuring out what felt right. I was just having fun, seeing where my voice could take me.

As time went on, I started being more intentional. Getting personal, tapping into my emotions, and embracing my life experiences, to make my music more confident, more daring, and way more experimental. I played with pop influences, and different genres, and really leaned into storytelling.

One of the biggest things that shaped my sound is my feature run before “Shake It To The Max(FLY)”. Working with different artists gave me the chance to hear myself in new genres. It made me realize that I don’t have to fit into one box. I can be soft and sweet, or bold and energetic it’s all still me.

Now, I know my sound, but I also love that there’s still room to grow. It never stops!

Content creation is one of your strong suits. We have seen you create exciting content for your singles and even the songs you’re featured on. What inspires you to do that?

When I create content, I want people to feel the vibe of the song beyond just listening. I also love storytelling, so when I drop a song, I like to create a world around it. Whether it’s a playful teaser, a behind-the-scenes moment, or a full-on visual concept, it’s all about making people connect with the music in a deeper way visually. Almost like inviting them into my creative mind!

It has been over two months since the release of “Shake It To The Max (FLY)”. How are you feeling and how have you been dealing with the reception of the song?

It’s been such a fun experience! I’ve just been soaking it all in, engaging with my supporters, and finding new ways to keep the momentum going. Seeing the love for it only makes me more excited for what’s coming next! “Shake It To The Max (FLY)” is a feel-good song, and seeing people dance to it, vibe with it, and make it their own has been really great. Every time I come across a video of someone shaking it to the max, I’m like, YES, mission accomplished!

What inspired the idea to collaborate on Silent Addy on this record?

We got connected in Miami a couple of years ago and have been creating together since then. I think the vibes were dope from day one and our love for dancehall music really made this happen. “Shake it to the Max(FLY)” was made last year in August and I just knew it was special so I decided to tease it soon after and the rest is history!

You teased the song for months, as far as even creating consistent content with the snippet, what was the thought process behind that strategy?

The snippet had so much energy, and I knew it was the kind of track that could live beyond just a regular release, it has something that people could connect with. So instead of just dropping it and hoping for the best, my manager and I wanted to make sure I made it part of the conversation early on.

The goal was to build anticipation in a way that felt organic. I had fun with the content, whether it was me just vibing, getting people to dance to it, or making little moments around the song. I wanted it to be something people naturally gravitated to so that by the time the song dropped, it already felt familiar.

It was a test of patience too! But seeing how people reacted, how they started making their own content with it before the song was even out, proved that it worked. Now, it’s out in the world, and people are still catching onto the energy!

Did you have any fear that the audience might not like the full song after getting used to the snippet?

I had to trust the process. I knew the full song was a banger and had even more to offer, it wasn’t just about that one catchy part, but the whole energy, the build-up, and the way it makes you want to move from start to finish.

Plus, the way people were already vibing to it before the release gave me confidence that they’d love the full version just as much. And honestly? There is music in this world that people never get tired of, like Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Wizkids “Ojuelegba”.

Were there instances where you were ever shy while shooting some of the content for the song? Or was the mindset of getting the song viral just too strong?

Oh, there were definitely moments where I was like this is actually insane, Wait… do I really want to post this? LOL, But the goal of getting people to “Shake It To The Max(FLY)” was way stronger! Some of the content ideas had me stepping out of my comfort zone whether it was dancing in the streets LITERALLY or posting more than usual, being extra playful, or just putting myself out there in ways I normally wouldn’t. But at the end of the day, the mission was bigger than the shyness!

We saw and loved the verses from the featured artists on social media. What was running through your mind when you first heard the verses from these artists?

Ahhh, when I first heard the verses, I was just like, Yup, this is it! You know that feeling when something just feels right? It’s honestly so incredible to see. I remember just smiling and thinking, Damn, this is about to be crazy!

How did the remix come about?

The remix honestly came together so naturally! Everyone involved in this song from Gamma to my manager and collaborator Silent Addy has played a role in bringing it together. It wasn’t forced at all. Everyone who hopped on genuinely vibed with the track, and you can feel that in their verses. It was one of those moments where everything aligned perfectly. Can’t wait to drop the others as well and continue to create a moment

What should the fans expect from this record that’s been released on Friday?

I wanted the remixes to feel like a natural extension of the song, not just a remix for the sake of it. So expect that same energy that makes you move without thinking too much. Hope y’all love it as much as I do!

What’s next for Moliy in 2025?

2025 is looking exciting! I’ve been working on new music that really captures where I’m at right now, and if you caught my Palm Wine performance in January, you already got a little taste with “Backie” produced by BGRZ. That one is definitely on the way, and trust me, it’s a vibe!

Beyond that, I’m looking forward to more collaborations, more live shows, festivals, and really just pushing myself creatively. I want to bring people into my world even more. Whether it’s through music, visuals, or just the way I connect with my supporters. So yeah, 2025 is all about growth, energy, and plenty of music to keep y’all moving!
