Creative Spotlight: Cedric Bansah

Creative Spotlight is our curated space dedicated to celebrating the visionaries and quiet disruptors currently defining the pulse of Africa and its global Diaspora. We birthed this segment to pull back the heavy velvet curtain and offer an unfiltered, exclusive look into the brilliant minds behind the avant-garde art you admire, the streetwear you flex in, and the rhythmic culture you consume with every scroll and heartbeat.

In this edition, we are shifting the frequency and sharpening the mix for a maestro of sound; the incredible Ghanaian DJ and curator, Cedric Bansah. Renowned for capturing the energy of the crowd with an unforgettable sonic rhythm, the 26-year-old’s sets document the culture and elevate it to a high-vibe, high-concept stratosphere that demands your undivided attention.

Tell us a little about your background.

I’m a DJ and curator working in Accra for about a year. I’ve curated day parties, film screenings and an art exhibition coming up in a few days.

At what point in your life did u decide your career path?

I’ve always felt drawn to spaces that spotlight creative talent but the decision to start curating came when I saw an open call for film enthusiasts to curate a screening experience at Beergarden.

What inspired your brand name?

M00NC4KE (pronounced mooncake) is the name of a character from Final Space, an animated show I watched a few years ago. It was my display name on twitter for about 4 years, so when I decided to become a DJ, it made sense to just carry that over.

What and who inspired you to choose your career?

Showing up consistently at events curated by iMullar SoundSystem, Unwind, The Weird Cult, Transit Live and Church of Stories definitely made me fall in love with curating experiences. Love to the big brains behind these brands cos I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for their hard work.

Details about your work? What does it entail?

As a DJ, I draw from my personal taste in music to curate sonic experiences for any space I’m booked to play in. As a curator, I set a goal, and then try my best to design a unique experience that achieves said goal.

Your past works? People and brands you’ve worked with.

I curated and hosted Barnflix with Beergarden from June to December 2025. I’ve also curated the lineup for Bella Dolce Vita’s Short Film Nights at the Red Room 3 times so far this year. I’m currently building Vinylla with a few friends: Nana Kwasi Yirenkyi and Benjamin Kpanie. A community that was started as a day party in an ice cream shop and grew through carefully integrating creative experiences into each gathering. Vinylla has been previously sponsored by RideMe (a car rental app) and Vody (before they were banned from the market).

I’m the resident DJ of the Africa Film Society, a film library and theater space located in Shiashie and founded by Blitz Bazawule. I’ve also graced the stages of the Asabaako Music Festival, and events curated by iMullar SoundSystem, alum., Fake Friday, Transit Live, Unwind Accra, among many others.

I uploaded a live mix of my set from the screening of City of God at the Africa Film Society. It was a set curated primarily with music from Brazil. It’s the mix I’m most proud of today. The mix is live on my SoundCloud.
