Best Ghanaian Songs Of August

Best Ghanaian Songs of August

August was fast-paced which saw the rise of new movements and some phenomenal new generation women draw the line on concrete.

Moliy quaked Ghana with “Ghana Bop”, Tneeya’s “Hype Means Nothing” got everyone second-guessing and off her SEED EP, Forever stole the heart of many. Twitch 4EVA spilled a lot of emotions with “Chaskele”, Kev and Grenade “Like to Drip”, Rvdical the Kid and Amaarae launched to “NASA” and more.

The Kumerica movement is by far the highlight of August. The drill inspired “Asakaa Drill” movement saw young artistes like Kawabanga, Kwaku DMC, Braa Benk, Reggie, jay Bahd and more take over the news with a breath of fresh sounds never blasted in any speaks. “Asaksa” or “Saka” is the vernacular of the streets in Kumasi derived out of Twi. You’re hyped, right?

Check out how August folded in no particular order.

Best Songs August Ghana

1. Twitch 4EVA – Chaskele

Twitch’s “Lost EP” has been out for a while and we are loving every single song on the project, but the love story behind “Chaskele” has our utmost attention and we think you should check it out too.

2. Kev The Topic featuring Grenade – Like To Drip

From their album “Utopia” Kev The Topic and Nana Grenade featured Blackway on “Like to Drip”. 10 tracks on the album and every album goes hard but if we are to choose one song from the project, it will be “like to drip”, the wavy vibes, production and lyrics is just on top for us.

3. Moliy – Ghana Bop

Moliy gave us a 6-track EP titled “Wondergirl”. 6 wonderful songs with specific messages on love, life and her personal experiences. Out of all the songs, “Ghana Bop” is our favourite, we love the fact that she sounded like she was just having fun and we love the natural flow that comes with it. Get your dancing shoes and jam to Ghana Bop.

4. Gyakie – Forever

“Forever” is track 2 off Gyakie’s debut tape, “Seed EP”. The song depicts a girl hopelessly in love and her only way to express it is through music. Love is a beautiful thing they say and listening to “Forever” will definitely give you a fair idea of what falling in love and being truly in love means.

5. Rvdical the Kid featuring Amaarae – NASA

Rvdical and Amaarae are going to be like the duo we won’t see often but whenever they link up they create magic. “NASA” was taken from and released ahead of Rvdical’s “Little Planet  EP”. A chill electronic sound with Amaarae’s soothing vocals is something you need to listen to.

6. Herman Suede – One by One

Since the release of his first single “Be Mine”  at age 17, Herman continues to prove to us how far he intends to stay in this industry. “One by One” sees him express his intentions to win the heart of a girl, one day at a time.

7. Tulenkey – Link Up

From Fuck Boys to Goodnight to “Link Up”, Tulenkey is undoubtedly the king of good vibes, every song of his has mad energy and good vibes. “Link Up” is that jam you play when the whole squad is together, having fun and just catching a vibe.

8. Nesta Ali – Sexy

Nesta Ali sings for the “Sexy” girls in his Afro-fusion influenced song. Nesta gets sensual with his lyrics so you know when to listen to this song, definitely not at a wedding or a party.

9. Kawabanga featuring Jay Bahd, O’Kenneth and Reggie – Akatafoc

The drill music genre found its way to Ghana and the people of Kumasi have taken it to a different level. A group of young boys have started the ‘Kumerican movement) and we are all here for it. “Akatafoc” is a song that talks about the lifestyle of young people living in Kumasi, a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The song features Jay Bahd, O’Kenneth and Reggie.

10. Teephlow – 2k20

If you’re new to the name Teephlow, “2k20” is the best way to understand the rapper. Teephlow tells us about him, what he likes and a couple of things in his song “2k20” off his “Road To Phlowducation II”

11. Mawcom X featuring Spacely and BOJ – Body

Mawcom X released his “Gift Of God” project with Ghanaian producer Kuvie, the project which he said has been in the works for 2 years came out exactly the way he wanted it to. For us, “Body” was our jam, picking a favourite song was hard but we settled on “Body” which featured Spacely and BOJ.

12. Tneeya & Webbiejustdidit – Hype Means Nothing

Tneeya believes that if you’re looking to reach higher levels in life, you need to believe in yourself and be your biggest motivator/supporter because if you give people too much room they can make and unmake you. She transfers this musically to her song “Hype Means Nothing”.

13. Ayisi – Mokole

Mokole” is reminiscent of Tupac and Erica Williams, ‘Do For Love’ which is a sample of Bobby Caldwell ‘What You Won’t Do for Love’, from his album What You Won’t Do For Love released in in 1978. In Ayisi’s version, he sings about life’s uncertainties and the unexpected.

14. Questo features Marince Omario – Akolabone

“Akolabone” translated to English is ‘a stubborn/mad child’. Questo is telling us that people are not deliberately bad just because they want to, sometimes people have to do the wrong or bad things to be able to survive, as hard as it is to believe, it’s the sad truth. The song features Marince Omario.

15. Super JazzClub – Cellular
