NEW SOUNDS WEEK 37 2020

Yung Demz, Uche B & Boye ‘The Genius’  – Dangerous

Producers expanding their art from producing to making their own songs is something we need to start getting used to. Yung D3mz, Uche B and Boye The Genius and Uche have teamed up to bring us a collab EP titled “Girls Like You”. The first single off the tape produced by Uche B is “Dangerous” and according to Yung “Some girls are just dangerous. They make you step out of your element. They match your energy. They’re the ones your mama warned you about”.  His mum warned him about girls like that but that’s exactly what he wants and nothing can be done about it.

Skillz8Figure  – Yakpa

In a world where everyone is trying to work hard and play smart, Skillz believes that no one can really have it all. “Yakpa” which means plenty in Yoruba language is his first single after the release of his hit tape “Gangsta Luv”. He plays the lover boy role in the Uche B produced song sending a message of wanting more even though he has enough. I guess it’s safe to say he’s an ‘Oliver Twist’, he wants everything from his lover in abundance.

Tibu – Amnesia

Tibu has been on a music hiatus since his last release “stay by plan” which featured Kelvynboy. He makes a comeback with his Afro-fusion banger “Amnesia”. This song like every Yammy tune speaks of a girl; nice and bad girl, it goes on to build the connection between the mood/feelings in their relationship and the strain. The Zodivc beat layered with 808 with the Yammy vibes is to put you in the same mood so as to feel, relate and better understand the story being told.

Major Skyscrappa – Errday

“Errday” is a hip-hop slang representing “EVERYDAY”. “Errday” is a hip-hop song by Skyscrapa which speaks to the lifestyle in the various hoods/areas he grew up in, from the streets of Lagos to the streets of Accra. Skyscrapa glorifies the “boys boys” way of life, ghetto vibes while giving listeners a melody to jam and party too.

Supa Gaeta featuring Oxlade – Text Me

Supa Gaeta releases a new song titled “Text Me” featuring Oxlade. The song explores self-isolation in this period with Supa Gaeta assuring his lover that distance cannot break them apart during the pandemic. Supa Gaeta is a fast-rising Ghanaian artist and teams up with Nigerian, Lagos based singer Oxlade who is highly rated in the Nigerian music scene.“Text Me” is released ahead of his forthcoming EP which he calls, SUPA SZN. Over the years Supa Gaeta has been leaving us with hints that point to a project he seemed to be working on and we cannot wait for it.

MindTigallo –  Energy

MindTigallo bets big on his latest vibe-filled entry, ‘Energy‘. The budding singer flaunts his trendy taste of music and style on what’s in line to be a booming treat for fans in the coming weeks. Linking up with Afrourbanplugg, MindTigallo’s ‘Energy’ is a synthesis of Hip-Hop and other fruity influences. It’s composed of light lyrics, an entrancing production and notably, pacifying vocals which seamlessly blend with the above to emulate a dreamy sequence.

Wizkid – No Stress

Finally, Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” has been slated for the 15th of October, 2020. I don’t know about you but we are super hyped and we can’t wait for it. If you loved the first single off the album “Smile” featuring H.E.R, then brace yourself for new release, “No Stress”. This song is a classic for people who love good vibes, good melodies and it’s a perfect song for a lover’s session. Nobody does it better than the Starboy.

Tems  – Damages

Nigeria’s alte princess Tems comes through with a new song “Damages”. Tems is no longer the baby she was so she’s asking for her freedom as she sings “Back then when I was a new youngie, surely you tryna run on me”, In this song, she sings about how she’s worked things out on her own and won’t allow anyone holds her back or treat her in a bad way. We agree with Tems and we believe in empowerment and fighting for one’s freedom to avoid future damages.

Moh – High me

Ghanaian Afrobeat singer and songwriter, Mohammed Mouazzen aka Moh is steadily becoming a force to reckon within the music industry as per his chain of brilliant releases. Produced by Beat Monsta, ‘High Me’ is a buoyant love song that reverberates the beauty of Moh’s s compositions. It’s a clever mix of smooth downtempo beats and strings by Nigeria’s finest guitarist, Fiokee; a combination which gracefully ferries Moh’s emotive vocals to one Maria. When asked about his personal thoughts and expectations for ‘High Me’, Moh was quite upbeat in his response: ”It’s a song I’m very proud of and can’t wait to let loose. I’m confident ‘High Me’ will exceed the support of my previous releases; ‘Belinda’ and ‘Wahala’, from the music community.

Louz and the Yakuza  – Amigo

Amigo is Lous’ fourth song off her upcoming album “Gore” set to be released on the 16th of October. “Amigo” which means “Friend” in Spanish sees  Lous describe the type of world she lives in, an evil world where people/friends try as much as they can to bring you down when they see you working hard to the top. She was made to believe that everything is going to be fine but now she finds herself fighting the evil that surrounds her just to be able to get to the top.

Simi – No Longer Beneficial

If you’ve ever been in a “friends with benefit” type of relationship, you’ll understand and enjoy this song better. There comes a time when people want more than just the benefits they entered a relationship for. In Simi’s case, she just wants to have a good time not stuck up with any relationship, so if the relationship is not giving you the benefit you want, take a step back and walk away. Listen here
