The just-ended Lagos Fashion Week SS25 shows were a kaleidoscope of creativity, where designers pushed the boundaries of fashion, redefining silhouettes, textures, and colours. Waist, Let It Drop

A nod to the roaring twenties, the drop waist silhouette made a stunning comeback. Designers like Rendoll, Desire Iyamah, and Orire embraced this elegant trend, reimagining it for the modern woman. The juxtaposition of a high waist and a low hip created a feminine and flattering silhouette that exuded timeless appeal. Rendoll’s collection showcased the versatility of the drop waist, from flowing evening gowns to simple daywear.

Texture, Please

Texture was the name of the game this season. Designers like Boydoe, Emmy Kasbit, Ajabeng and Awa Meite experimented with a variety of materials, from intricate woven fabrics to luxurious silks. The interplay of textures added depth and dimension to each ensemble, creating a truly tactile experience. Lagos Space Program’s collection, for example, featured a stunning white knit dress with a unique knit pattern that was both cosy and elegant.

Drapes and Deconstructed Dreams

Deconstruction was a major theme this season, as designers challenged traditional notions of garment construction. Ajane, JZO and Fruche all pushed the boundaries of fashion, creating innovative and avant-garde pieces with draping and deconstructed techniques. Ajane’s collection featured a series of deconstructed shirts, skirts and pants with asymmetrical hems and exposed seams. Fruche was very knotty and full of drapes. Dresses spotted a knot or two while dramatic drapes added extra oomph to the looks.
