Each week, we accumulate a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear because music is the only universal language of peace and love. Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week and don’t forget who put you on these sounds.

Tneeya – Hype Means Nothing

Ghanaian-Cameroonian singer T’neeya sends a message of confidence and self-belief in her new soulful-Afrobeat blend song, “Hype Means Nothing”. In this song, T’neeya makes us understand that she is all she has, no one owes her any form of the support even if they do, real or fake, she will just have to believe in her craft and work her way out to the top. 

Ayisi – Mokole

“Following his first single for 2020, titled ‘Prayer’, Ayisi formally known as A.I releases another soulful record titled ‘Mokole’, translated in English as ”Nobody knows”. “Mokole” is reminiscent of Tupac’s and Erica Williams, ‘Do For Love’ which is a sample of Bobby Caldwell ‘What You Won’t Do for Love‘, from his album What You Won’t Do For Love released in in 1978. This time produced by E.L, who contributes a touch of Ghanaian Highlife and Hiplife to the record. A.I‘s fluent blend of the local and foreign dialects, backing and ad-lib vocals, surely leaves us all wanting more.

Vigilante featuring Terry Desmond – Home Boys Project

Vigilante’s “Home Boys Project” featuring Terry Delmond is a song which brings together elements from the Uk style of music and sounds from African culture. The stix production sees both artists sing about lifestyle, link-ups with their squad and celebrating their success. 

Dj Nayiram featuring Nu Kru – Waiting Outside 

What the artist portrays in this song produced by Kayso is a typical ‘boy meets girl, boy likes girl and boy wants girl’ type of situation. It is conveyed by the way he describes her beauty, physique, and fine skin. In the chorus, we get a feel of the wait he has had to endure for this girl, “I’ve been drinking, I’ve been toasting, I’ll be waiting outside.” No matter how the night goes, he is not giving up, he is patient, and he is waiting. Liberian artist, Nu Kru states that he and Nayiram were brought together by the universe for this song. 

Ocho Foreign featuring Zarion Uti – Level 

Afro-fusion lover boys Ochoforeign and Zarion Uti showcase their romantic “Gbedu” skills on this collaboration titled “Level”.  Zarion comes off the successful release of Ocho’s last single “Money” and both artists show their amazing ability to create gems with this track and it promises to be one that ages well. 

Seyi Shay featuring Zlatan, Ycee and Small Doctor – Tuale 

Nigerian singer Seyi Shay makes her 2020 debut with “Tuale” a tuneful pro-hard work record that eulogizes people who scale the everyday hurdles of life and get their hands dirty for a legitimate source of income. The record features Zlatan, Ycee and Small Doctor.

Mawcom  X & Kuvie – Mawuli

Mawcom X tapped into his spirituality on Mawuli, his native name. With Kuvie on the best, Mawcom prays to creator submitting his dreams, aspirations and extends prayer coverage to the ghetto youth. Reporting live from the motherland, Mawuli.

Nasty C – Zulu Man

Nasty C on “Zulu Man” blends his native Zulu tongue and English to remind the world who is louder. The Zulu man made his identity known and further add he is not just any Zulu man. Find out more about this Zulu man.

Superjazzclub – Cellular

Ghanaian collective Superjazzclub forges on with a new single ‘Cellular. Cellular is the first single off their debut Extended Play. The project is characterised by the heavy fusion of music genres from Lo-Fi to Garage and hip-hop written by band members Ansah Live, BiQo and Seyyoh and produced by Øbed and Ansah Live while Joeyturks builds percussions for a section of the song. Falz – One Trouser 

Falz The Bahd Guy comes through with a new single “One Trouser”, an Afrobeats hitting jam produced by Bizzouch. The ‘Bop Daddy’ hitmaker known for his witty lyrics does not disappoint on this record at all as he sings/raps over a groovy danceable tune. Enjoy. 

Mista Myles –  Die For You

Love is a powerful experience and many would do anything within their ability to experience what it feels like to love and be loved. While others will give away all their money to be loved, Mista Myles is offering his life. In the singer’s new song “Die For You” he tells the story of how he’s willing to lay it all on the line just to prove how much he cares and loves this woman but for some reason, he is unsure if she will love him. The afro-soul song is by produced by Mimlife Records in-house producer WebieJustDidit and will give you an insight into how far the singer is willing to go just to win the love of the woman. The song is accompanied by a video directed by Dir Kofi Awuah II and stares singer/actress Sister Debby. The video gives a visual description of the content of the song.

Kwabsmah featuring Joey B – Sweet Talk

Kwabsmah’s newest single “Sweet Talk” is set to get you away from a mood of melancholy into a romantic spell. Producer Uche B helps bring out Kwabsmah’s great talent and eccentric songwriting skills to blend in with the Afro-Fusion world. The song follows real-life experiences involved in the ”chase” of a woman of which he loves and how he finds it hard to be consistent with a woman when he receives no positive response. Joey B brings in his extreme undebatable talent into the mix. ‘Sweet Talk’ is taken off Kwabsmah’s upcoming album slated for release in a few months. 

C Burn – Makoma

‘Makoma’ translating to “My Heart” as its title suggests deals with affairs of the heart – love. It explores the unadulterated love shared between C Burn and one damsel. He boasts of how special her love is and confesses she’s the only one who has all his attention and energy. As part of his agenda to entertain fans, the promising star’s latest release practically blends Ghana’s own Highlife genre with Afrobeat to offer music enthusiasts an entirely fresh perspective on Highlife music. 

Mr Mageek – No worry yourself 

Mr Mageek uses the freestyle “Nor Worry Yourself” as an opportunity to speak on a bright future, where challenges may arise, but they will inevitably be overcome. He spreads a message of hope and resilience over a beat that will be sure to get you moving and a message we can all take and be encouraged by.

 

Projects

Questo – Ananse 

In this album, Questo plays the lead character Kweku Ananse where he narrates personal stories about growing up in Odorkor-Accra, Ghana. “Ananse is a concept. Ananse is about self-worth and self-love. I put the narratives together referring to Ananse in the second person to justify assessing myself outside my own body. Ananse is basically a documentation of my losses, my achievements and my experience pursuing my goals”. The songs tell stories of the young Ghanaian man trying to beat the system every Ghanaian is the ananse in his own story and Questo just happened to make this album in his own way.

Fireboy – Apollo

Fireboy blew our minds last year with his debut album “Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps”, his sophomore album “Apollo” is out now and we are really expecting it to do some magic like “LLG” did. The album is a fusion of Afrobeat and Afro-pop with laid back R&B melodies and lyrics that are soothing to the ear. The 17-track project has a song for everyone and every emotion, from ‘favourite song’ with the dance vibes to “tattoo”, an expression of intense feelings to ‘Afar’ which features Olamide and talks about self-love, self-worth and living your best life. Adekunle Gold – Afro Pop, Vol. 1

On his third album, Adekunle Gold shows off his growing versatility in a unique and experimental addition to his discography. Weaving threads of Afropop through a multitude of genres, the Nigerian artist avails himself of the joys of exploration. “Afro Pop, Vol. 1 is my freedom,” he tells with Apple Music. “I wanted to make sounds that have come out of Africa, but in my own voice. This is the one time I took all the risk in the world.”

Dj Lambo – A Tale Of Two Cities

Nigerian Dj, Dj Lambo drops her debut project ‘A Tale Of Two Cities’. As the name suggests, the7 tracked EP is a fusion of influences from two cities; Lagos and Johannesburg featuring Zanda Zakuza, Toya Delazy, Nizreen, Ice Prince, Ckay, Lady Donli and more out now.

Dj Cuppy  – Original Copy

Dj Cuppy’s “Original Copy” is a body of work that testified that she’s been working hard not only as a DJ or Radio Presenter but also as an artist who is willing and ready to take her music to different levels. The debut album, full of bangers, is stacked with artists from Africa and the Diaspora. With features from, Rayvanny, Wyclef Jean, Darkoo, Stonebwoy, Rema, Fireboy, Teni, Julian Marley, Sir Shina, Nonso Amadi, Ycee, Ms Banks and Seyi Shay, “Original Copy” is worth every attention it is going to receive.

Kev and Grenade – Utopia 

Ghanaian hip-hop duo Kev & Grenade have finally released their highly anticipated album “Utopia”.  The 11-song project was preceded by ‘Like To Drip’ released earlier with features from E.L and Blackway, their 2018 hit song ‘Adonko’ also made way to the album, Joey B was featured on ‘Gbelemor’’. Just like the title, the album is expected to take you on a hip-hop journey filled with a musical perfect experience.

Remy Baggins  – Amaterasu 

After showcasing his flair and affinity for the R&B genre on his last two projects; HentaI and the Sakura EP, Remy takes it a level up with the hard-hitting “AMATERASU”. Inspired by the undying black flames from popular anime Naruto, the project is a powerful testament to the versatility of Remy Baggins and is also his 6th body of work. On this 7 track project, Remy effortlessly tells different stories about his journey in the music industry, including an “808 Therapy” session; on various types of Trap/Hip-Hop beats. On “AMATERASU”, Remy collaborates with several talented acts; PsychoYP, Mojo, Marv OTM, Veen, Kiienka, Boogey and Zilla Oaks; producing every track himself with the exception of GBOJU! which was produced by Spaceship Collective producer Telz, and W.I.G.B.?, co-produced with GCL3F.

K1 De Ultimate  – Fuji The Sound

Two weeks after announcing the release of his urban-spirited project and putting out “Awade” as the tape’s lead, Fuji music maestro, K1 De Ultimate offers his “Fuji the Sound” EP. The 6-track project which accommodates contributions from Teni, Toby Grey and Maestro is K1 De Ultimate’s first project in many years and puts a modern twist to the puritan Fuji sound. K1 has seen it all in his 50 years plus career, enjoying critical & commercial success home and abroad in a career span that has taken him from young upstart in 1970 to an African cultural authority. The new EP was created and tweaked to perfection in two years.
