Black Sherif, one of Ghana’s hottest artists, is set to release his debut album titled “The villain I never was” on October 6th. We take a look at Black Sherif’s musical progression over the years
In 2019 he released two singles-“Cry for me” and “Mariana”. Cry for me talks about the difficulties in making money and seeks God’s intervention.

In January 2020 he released “Money”. This was the song that took off his career. In the song, he says “show me where the money dey, I just dey hustle for long o”- emphasizing that poverty is not just for lazy people but hard workers also struggle to get wealth.
This song did well and in July 2020, there was a remix that featured Tulenkey and Amg Armani.

After the success of “Money”, he released “Destiny” in October 2020.
He released “Ade akye” and “Ankonam” in successive months in early 2021. “Ade akye” literally means sunrise and it talks about keeping up the grind, non-stop. Ankonam talks about the trust issues of a poor man.
In May 2021, the “First sermon” was released. The song caught the attention of most Ghanaians because of the style of flow and energetic vocals. The music video which premiered with the song told a story of a street kid who has a lot to show the world. “ I bet you don’t know where I’m from, it’s do or die, we no fail”, “Coming like a raging storm, fasting up your seat belt”- is used to describe his mood in the first sermon.

‘Second sermon’, a sequel to the “first sermon”, was a massive hit. The teaser of the second sermon video made the song popular even before it was released. The song went viral and became a global sensation. The song enjoyed massive airplay after its release in July 2021. It topped charts in Ghana and made it to international charts worldwide. Burna boy became a fan of the song and jumped on a remix later in December of 2021 and released the video in February 2022.
‘Kweku the Traveller’, Black sherif’s biggest hit yet, was released in March 2022. The song talks about letting go of our mistakes in the past and rising stronger to redefine ourselves. Kwaku the Traveller is extremely relatable, especially with its lyrics- “Of course, I fuc**ed up, Who never fuc**ed up, Hands in the air, No hands?”

This song topped the charts in Ghana and Nigeria for weeks.
In September 2022, Black Sherif dropped a single off his upcoming album titled “Soja”. “Soja” tells a story of him almost realizing his dream (everything he envisioned) but having to wrestle with his inner and outer demons.

On October 6th, 2022, Black Sherif will release his debut album titled “The Villain I Never Was”. It has been a long journey leading up to this and frankly, we can’t wait for the story he wants to tell with it.
