Every week, the iMullar staff round up ten songs we cannot stop listening to, forming the weekly list of songs known as “On Rotation.” You heard these recommendations here first. From South to West Africa, to the UK, each track is guaranteed to be a vibe.
1. Camidoh – Sugarcane remix featuring King Promise, Mayorkun, Darkoo
The lyrics “girl you never know say you’re kongo aso; man dem suffer to find your love” have been living in my head rent-free at this point. After dropping the original ‘Sugarcane’ in November 2021, Camidoh called on some friends to add their flare to the dance banger.
2. Silencer featuring JME – Matrix Nokia
Long live grime! We haven’t really heard much from JME since the release of his 2019 album and joint 2021 album. But there’s no denying that he’s still got it. JME does his thing as per with animated punchlines and his SERIOUS flow. Renowned producer, Silencer is known for his synths & 808s making ‘Matrix Nokia’ a perfect grime track.
3. Nonso Amadi – Foreigner
This is a feel-good Afro-R&B track with the touch of that saxophone giving ‘Foreigner’ a soulful vibe. Nonso Amadi recently blessed our ears with a live rendition which made me enjoy the song even more!
4. WeirdxGenius (Tony Dickson, Lykay, Kweku Mireku) – Fine Fine Lady
The creative collective dropped their debut project Vol. 1 in 2019. ‘Fine Fine Lady’ is an ODE to Fela Kuti with a Ghanaian twist. I love the style each artist brings to this track with a beautiful blend of Ga, Twi and Pidgin. I’m very much looking forward to hearing new music from them!
5. Dunsin – Odeadieyie
I often flutter back and forth from new music to oldies and this week, ‘Odeadieyie’ reminded me of a distant memory. Such a classic tune from Dunsin!
6. Tayc featuring Adekunle Gold – DODO
After an impressive impromptu cover of the original ‘DODO’ on Mouv radio, it was only right that Tayc made it official by putting Adekunle Gold on the remix.
7. Izzy Eze – No Regrets
Izzy Eze often referred to as the African Londoner, fuses afrobeats with R&B to create this delectable track. As her first single of 2022, Izzy Eze gives us a peek at what to expect from her later this year.
8. Ruks – Fade Away
This funk-filled song gives me all the vibes I need. An afro-fusion artist, Ruks’ groovy track is all about moving on and letting the past remain the past.
9. JeffreyBenson – Some Love & More
This is instantly a yes from me! I love JeffreyBenson’s take on the classic Marvin Gaye song ‘Sexual Healing’. ‘Some Love & More’ is sensual and makes a perfect wind-down track.
10. Oché – Losing You
With a knack for outpouring his emotions, Oche lets the matters of his heart flow in ‘Losing You’.
