“I Just Follow The Melody Where It Leads, And It Has Not Led Me Wrong Yet.”: A Conversation With Korshi T

Korshi T, born Nathan Tsagli in Keta, Ghana is a self-described rhythmic singer/songwriter who raps sometimes and finds comfort performing in Hip-hop/Rap and Afro-fusion Genre. With years of loving music and experimenting with sounds and instruments, he is consistently building a core fan base with his highly versatile sounds.

iMullar: For people who do not know you, how would you describe yourself to them?

Korshi T: Korshi T is a Ghanaian singer/songwriter who makes Afrofusion and is a part of the collective SOUND CRAZY.

iMullar: At what point in time in your life did you decide to give music a chance and make this a career?

Korshi T: I’ve always loved making and creating music but I only started recording my songs in Kumasi Academy because we could and my friends won’t allow me to waste my voice hahaha.

iMullar: You used to be part of a collective back in the university. Shed some light on your time as a member of the collective and did that period influence your career in any way?

Korshi T: It was an amazing time. We came together to work on a collective tape dubbed “Colonization”… The time was perfect and we had songs to share with an audience that supported us so we did. Though it was a challenging period, it taught me a lot

iMullar: Your music shows how versatile you are as an artist. How do you decide on what genre to do and how do you maintain the community you are building despite the different genres you make?

Korshi T: I don’t approach a beat with the mentality of being versatile. I just follow the melody where it leads and it has not led me wrong yet. My community of listeners is always open to what I drop so I just take them along.

iMullar: You are credited as a writer on Kidi’s Likor. In a country where people are getting used to artists having writers and writers writing for others, how did that come about and what will say is your perspective on artists having writers?

Korshi T: Shouts SNYPAGRAM for giving me the opportunity for real. I believe music is a collaborative art. I believe sharing energy and emotion takes more than one person’s effort. Having or working with a writer is like doing something you love with the help of people who share the same love unless your energies don’t complement each other.

iMullar: You recently dropped your project Gelem. Can you run us through the making of the project? Why that title and the idea behind the cover art?

Korshi T: Yes I can. “Gelem” is a 7 track EP that features some of the best songs I have recorded since 2021. These songs represent how I felt or still feel.

The word means “uncut diamonds” so we created an album cover in that regard.

iMullar: Are there any songs you wanted on the project that did not make the final cut?

Korshi T: Haha, a lot of them.

iMullar: What went into picking the songs we now hear on the tape?

Korshi T: We wanted to create a project that has something for every listener.

iMullar: There is only one feature on Gelem which is AratheJay. How will you describe your relationship with AratheJay and is his being the only feature on the tape intentional?

Korshi T: AratheJay be hard chale! Since day one, we have just been creating dope music no matter what. Joy, the song I have with AratheJay is on the tape because it’s one of the best songs we have made together.

iMullar: How has the reception for the tape been and what have been some of the highlights so far with regards to how the tape is doing out there?

Korshi T: So far so good. There are good reviews all over. The bad reviews will also steer us in the right direction.

iMullar: We have seen Korshi T perform on several stages. With this new tape out now, should we be looking forward to a Korshi T?

Korshi T: Hahaha who knows? We should be expecting anything though.

iMullar: With the shift in African music as Afrobeats continue to rise, where do you find yourself in all the shifting and globalization of African music?

Korshi T: I find myself in the midst of it all happening right before me and Gelem is a contribution to getting more people on authentic African Music brewed with all stories and relatability….I am learning every day

iMullar: What are your last words to your community and readers alike?

Korshi T: Love to everyone who has supported our music, especially to the mandem who randomly just put my songs on repeat, the streaming platforms have been telling on you all…..Keep doing the most.
