Every week, the iMullar staff round up ten songs we cannot stop listening to, forming the weekly list of songs known as “On Rotation.” You heard these recommendations here first. From South to West Africa, to the UK, each track is guaranteed to be a vibe.
1. Essilfie – Total Seduction
From her recent debut EP Tori’s Lounge, Essilfie serves sexiness on ‘Total Seduction’ just as the title suggests from the production to the lyrics. Essilfie proves that she cannot be placed in a box with this R&B ballad which differs from her previous songs.
2. Juic3boy – Concern
The guy with the golden melodies is back with his first release of 2022. Juic3boy proclaims his self-focus in ‘Concern’ and not associating himself with anything contrary. With a trip to the motherland over December, it was only right that Juic3boy shot these crisp visuals live from the +233.
3. Alvin G – SONRISE featuring Foggieraw
The melody on ‘SONRISE’ evokes a feel-good gospel rhythm bound to spark hope in listeners and incorporates a sound bite from the legendary and insightful, Lauryn Hill. Alvin G flaunts his captivating wordplay perfectly, relaying an encouraging message of joy and hope. I don’t think Alvin G could have recruited anyone better than Foggieraw to bless this track with his mellow raps.
4. Kkeda – Blue Jeans
Kkeda dropped her first single of 2022 with a bang. She articulates the hardship of letting go of dead relationships and moving on. Kkeda continues to demonstrate her talent and I’m looking forward to hearing what else she has in store for us this year.
5. DELE – Badd
DELE displays sensuality on this afrobeat infused R&B track to slow things down. I love the subtle addition of what sounds like your classic Amapiano tone. ‘Badd’ is soothing to the ear and definitely a contender for your playlist to unwind.
6. Maxwell Owin and Xenia Manasseh featuring Joe Armon-Jones – Probably Never
‘Probably Never’ is one of the beautiful connections which was the fruit of a writing camp project exploring soul music in 2019. with a laidback beat produced by Maxwell Owin and keys touched by Joe, Xenia’s soothing vocals is the epitome of soul. This record will make you feel as if you are floating on air.
7. Cina Soul – Spattention (Space & Attention)
‘Spattention’ comes off of Cina Soul’s 2021 EP, For Times We Lost. The Ga soulstress flaunts her vocal ability expressing the wahala that comes from dating an indecisive lover and all the emotions that string along with such.
8. Dave – Starlight
With perfect timing to commemorate the end of his UK tour, ‘Starlight’ celebrates Dave’s wins in life. The production on this is top-notch with the sampling of Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me To The Moon!
9. Knucks – Leon the Professional
Knucks is growing to be one of my faves with every track as he manages to show his finesse on a beat with an impeccable flow proving his knack for artistry.
10. Hope Ikpoku Jnr featuring BILLY – Stop the Rain
Probably best known for his role in Netflix’s series Top Boy as Aaron, Hope teased his musical abilities in 2021 with a snippet on TikTok, which had everyone anticipating the drop. Well, alas, here it is. Hope is well-versed with a good flow and makes me wonder what other talents he is hiding.
