IMULLAR’s Melanin Groove

More and more, black women around the world are finding the confidence and freedom to celebrate themselves and their accomplishments loudly. Lately, we’ve all been constantly bombarded with how our societies, creative industries, and inner circles have failed to protect and properly support black women.

Being a woman and being black comes with its own sets of rules, demons, and obstacles. Whether it’s persuading our own people to listen to our stories and believe them or navigating an industry that attempts to pigeonhole black women into one genre or niche. It’s no surprise that brown skin girls around the world have taken matters into their own hands in pursuing their passions.

Whilst the rest of the world plays catch up to give black women their roses when they’re due, we here at iMULLAR want to celebrate the work our sisters have been putting in. We can no longer disregard our talented sisters and their amazing contributions to our global soundscapes.

Dedicated to our melanin sisters back home in Africa and in the diaspora, Melanin Groove is iMULLAR’s contribution to celebrating and uplifting African women and their music. The playlist features new artists on the rise like Gyakie, Rebecca Winter, Turunsh, Syya Bully Maya Amolo, Diane Dddd, Nadine, Dami Oniru and spotlights seasoned musicians like Cina Soul, Ria Boss, Teni, Lady Donli, and more.
