Runtown returns from a little break, with a new hit titled “Kini issue” (Yoruba for “what’s the issue”). From the ardent harmonies to the “classic Runtown” pattern of the song or the soulful saxophone, this mid-tempo track is pure Soundgod creation. Soundgod rarely misses, he never disappoints and “Kini issue” is a latest reminder of why we call him Soundgod. The soulful production was brought to life by Xtraodinaire and Biggiejazzy and the Runtown-ish saxophone usually delivered on Del-B’s productions hits just the right spot.
If you’re a Runtown fan and familiar with “Tradition EP”, then you know Soundgod and his way of life. The sweet bassline with the grooviness of the guitar creates a colorful but mellow vibe and the minimalistic percussions make the song smoother than ever, allowing you to get in the proper Soundgod ting that gets better with each second.
On “Kini Issue”, Soundgod Music Group’s singer and songwriter is letting go of the yesteryears and focusing on the good vibes that he’s known for. Living free without bad vibes and those who might bring cynicism into his atmosphere; “the international badman killa” makes it clear that if it happens, he “might buss his gun”.
In terms of production style and lyrics, “Kini issue” is -in a way, a sequel for the “Tradition” project. Runtown is still the same thoughtful lover/ international Badman killa whose love for another sees him embrace vulnerability to the extent that, he “sing love songs on the radio” however he continues to maintain the badman energy, reassuring everyone that there’s nothing he can’t do.
“Tradition” EP was well orgnaised, very big on love and what we call “vibes” at iMullar, a constant when it comes to Runtown and his music. The energy and spirit of this body of work can still be identified in this latest track ‘Kini Issue’ leaving us with much to anticipate regarding the release of his upcoming 13 track EP.
