Poverty is a state of being deplored by many. No one in life wants to lack nor struggle for the basic necessities of life, but sadly poverty exists within every society. Ben Carson once stated that “poverty results from the wrong mindset: people with strong motivation can escape poverty while those with negative attitudes remain poor.” Many may see this as a controversial statement considering the various societal factors that can contribute to poverty, but one thing is for sure mindset can aid in escaping poverty. Some people just refuse to be broke.
This week we journey into the world of R2Bees. R2Bees is known as a musical group, a family, and a movement. When broken down R2Bees simply means Refuse 2 Be Broke.
R2bees is well known as a Ghanaian musical duo that consists of Faisal Hakeem and Rashid Mugeez also known as Omar Sterling and Mugeez. The musical duo has dabbled in a variety of sounds ranging from Afrobeat, hip hop, hiplife, and highlife. With over 11 years in the music industry, R2bess has provided consumers with a robust catalogue of hits and jams. R2bees has worked with the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Wande Coal, Sarkodie, Samini and King Promise, just to name a few. To date, the dynamic group has released three studio albums: Da Revolution I (2009), Da Revolution II: Refuse to be Broke (2012) and Site 15 (2019).
In 2013, the duo was nominated in the Best International Artist (Africa) category at the 2013 BET Awards. R2bees also received nominations in 2013 for Western African Artist or Group of the Year and 2014 for African Artist of the Year (Non-Nigerian) through Nigeria Entertainment Awards and more. The group is dear to the hearts and minds of free-spirited Ghanaian, music royalty.
