Fashion designer Jason Jermaine Asiedu of Jermaine Bleu caught our eye. Jermaine Bleu is a contemporary ready-to-wear African brand which represents style and quality made in Ghana garments. The brand is for the bold, beautiful, intellectual and explores all levels of creativity, telling stories through modern-day Africa, informed by the culture.

Founded by 25 years old, Jason Jermaine Asiedu in the year 2015, the brand is young at heart and pushes to tell stories through visual mediums in a minimalist aesthetic yet compelling. Jermaine Bleu has grabbed the attention of both local and international media sure as Okay Africa, Teen Vogue, Vogue Italia, High Snobiety and appeared in the pages of Schick Magazine as designers to watch.

Jermaine’s collection at this year’s Lagos Fashion Week was their SS20 ‘Asanteman’ collection inspired by historical events like Osei Tutu, one of the founders of the Ashanti Empire aided by his chief priest Okomfo Anokye and the warrior Queen Yaa Asantewaa. The Asante’s are a powerful, warlike and highly disciplined tribe in West Africa known for their rich culture. It was important for us to highlight these events through our collection this season.

Our epic closing at LFW this year was inspired by the warrior Queen Yaa Asantewaa “I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT. IT CAN NOT BE!” I must say this, if you the men of Ashanti will not go forward, then we will. We the women will.

Jermaine’s chose from an all-inclusive pool of models that were provided by Lagos Fashion week whom in his won words described as “very beautiful and humble models that made our work very easy.” His influences when it comes to fashion are mostly friends and living in Ghana. “I’m constantly surrounded by a lot of young creatives who love to experiment with their fashion, this pushes me to explore out the box with my work,” he said.
