Baaba J Set To Close The Chapter On ‘In Pursuit Of Happiness’ With A Final Accra Concert

Following A Triumphant Lagos Showcase, The Independent Singer-Songwriter Returns Home For An Intimate Farewell Performance.

The era of “In Pursuit of Happiness” is reaching its final destination. Following a cross-border showcase in Lagos, Ghanaian singer-songwriter Baaba J has announced a definitive, intimate concert at Accra’s NAFTI Studio III on Sunday, June 7. Orchestrated in partnership with Afrodite Society, the two-hour performance is billed as the ultimate farewell to the sonic universe of her most critically acclaimed project to date.

The announcement was accompanied by promotional artwork rich with local iconography. Featuring the symbolic Freedom and Justice Arch, the visual aesthetic firmly anchors this international victory lap back into the soil of Accra, offering a distinct sense of homegrown pride. This finale comes on the heels of an expansive period of global movement for Baaba J. Before commanding the stage in Nigeria, Baaba J embarked on a four-city German tour, with stops including Berlin, Lär, and Düsseldorf, that served as a foundational proof of concept for her global ambitions.

“My run of shows in Germany boosted my confidence in hosting a show in Lagos. While Lagos has been one of my top cities, putting on a show on foreign land meant I could do this at home, too. As an indie artiste I am redefining the way of doing things. All these shows are my own definitions of doing a tour and connecting with people who appreciate my music and art,” she stated.

Originally released in November 2024, “In Pursuit of Happiness” stands as Baaba J’s third EP and a creative high-water mark. The six-track body of work is a fluid masterclass in genre-bending, seamlessly weaving Highlife, Soul, Folk, and Pop. It captured widespread attention for its deep cultural intentionality, evident in standout moments like “Here Comes the Sun” featuring B4Bonah, which offered a brilliant nod to Ga musical traditions and drew structural inspiration from the legendary legacy of Wulomei. Similarly, the track “Ah Well,” a collaboration with Nigerian artist Oladapo, brought a breezy, cross-border energy laced with smooth production from Juls.

The project’s impact was further amplified in February 2025 with the release of a live rendition recorded alongside the ensemble, The Musical Lunatics. This performance offered an even deeper, more immersive iteration of the material, solidifying her reputation as a powerhouse performer and setting the stage for her recent international runs.

Hailing from Tema, Baaba J has meticulously carved out a unique space in the contemporary West African music landscape through deliberate, narrative-driven releases and highly curated live spaces. This upcoming Accra show functions as a conscious, poetic bookend to a transformative creative epoch. To elevate the final night, she has assembled a stellar guest lineup featuring some of the most exciting voices in the alternative space, including Falé, Sekyerewaa, and Tsie. Notably, Oladapo will also cross over to join her on stage, promising a live replication of their collaborative chemistry.

Given the strict two-hour runtime from 7 PM to 9 PM and the deliberate choice of an intimate studio setting, the June 7 showcase is rapidly becoming one of the most anticipated events on Accra’s indie music calendar.

“I am very excited about it, and I think it will be glorious. I’ve been very particular about everything from the venue to who is supporting.” – Baaba J.

For the community that has walked alongside Baaba J through the highs of this era, the night offers a rare, communal space to celebrate the music one last time in its current form, and to catch a collective glimpse of whatever horizon she chooses to pursue next.
