In the bustling warmth of Africa’s landscapes, where the dust catches the afternoon sun just so, and the quiet, unraveling contradictions of everyday life play out across street corners, images are constantly being written by the cosmos. It takes a specific kind of eye, a deliberate patience, to translate that kinetic energy into a visual language that lingers long after the shutter clicks and the frame closes.
Frame Of Mind is our dedicated homage to the world-builders behind the lens, the visionaries who do not merely document our collective reality, but stretch it, color it, and gently invite us to step inside it. We are illuminating the creators whose cameras serve as vessels for deep curiosity, capturing the raw textures, the shifting light, and the fleeting, beautiful human fragments that define who we are when nobody is watching. Today, the light falls squarely on Eddie Kibe Nduni, known across the creative landscape simply as Kibe Nduni.
Kibe is a Kenyan based photographer and creative director operating at the absolute intersection of documentary, street, and subcultural storytelling. Rooted in an approach that feels equal parts raw preservation and intentional art direction, his work approaches the African experience as a living, breathing ecosystem of style, movement, and quiet heritage. He discovered his love for photography back in highschool, hanging out with friends and going to the Nairobi CBD on the weekends to take photos.
Kibe Nduni’s work revolves around play of subject with experimentation of styling, lighting and colors to evoke emotions as he seeks his place in the African frontier. His work is a reflection of his sorroundings, ambition to create work that reflects lived experience as well as the people around him. His subjects include young people who navigate this potent rich African landscape. He believes his work is a place of wonder and imagination where he invite viewers to share the stories of this world.
What type of photography do you do?
I do Fashion & Commercial Photography.
What is the internal dialogue you have with yourself moments before you press the shutter?
I wish I could do this with my eyes instead of closing one eye.
Is there a specific emotion you find yourself unconsciously hunting for in every subject you shoot?
Confidence!
Describe the feeling of being ‘in the zone.’ Does the world disappear, or does it become hyper-vivid?
The world falls into a blur and what stands in front of me is what matters at that moment.
Looking back at your most iconic shot, what was a ‘happy accident’ that your brain processed faster than your hands?
Back in 2023, I added some fringes to some hula hoops. When we went outside the wind was not working too well and it was getting late. 20 minutes to the sun setting, the wind changed direction to the side of the setting sun and everything just fell into place.
How does your choice of lens act as a psychological filter for how you interpret reality?
The biggest part a lens plays is ability to subtract. From our eyes, we have this larger than life view that the camera and lens gives you an option to choose what you’d like to be holy at a given moment
How much of your personality is visible in this frame, and how much is strictly the subject’s?
ouuuuuu!! A lot of it would really be me. A different brief, idea or collaboration always comes to an end at the outcome that decided by me and I feel the choice greatly reflects a great lot of the time.
