Obongjayar Is Back With New Music And A Video For His Single “Just My Luck.”
Since the release of his sophomore album, “Some Nights I Dream Of Doors”, in 2022 , Obongjayar has continued to leave his mark in the music space. In 2023, he released a couple of singles including “Just Cool” and “Who Let Him In” with the latter being featured on the EA Sports FC 24 Official Soundtrack last year. He also lent his vocals on Fred Again…’s “adore you” which he performed live at the Aragon Ballroom in August 2023. The Nigerian-Born, London-Based Artist also made his NPR Tiny Desk solo debut earlier this year, performing “Sugar”, “Frens”, “Message In A Hammer” among others.
He recently released a 2-Pack single, “Tomorrow Man”and “Just My Luck” on Wednesday, October 9th. “Tomorrow Man” is featured on the EA Sports FC 25 Official Soundtrack. “Just My Luck” is a message about insecurity, introspection, acceptance and self-love. He laments about not being good enough to make the band and having self doubt about his talents and ability. “Settle Down, Stop being a baby”, his mom with tough love, serves as the angel on his shoulder urging him to have deep introspection and accept that he only needs himself to make an effort in making a difference in his life. The volume of his voice increases steadily signaling his unwavering rise in confidence.

Obongjayar is a master storyteller and it’s seen and felt in all areas of his artistry. The music video matches the song’s message with the lyrics syncing perfectly with the visual storytelling and progression. “I want to be part of the band, For Once can’t things go my way”, as an indication of diffidence, he dances alone on the ledge in the opening parts of the visual, as he hesitates to join the swim team in diving into the pool. He watches on as his team exhibit their masterful skill in synchronized swimming as he wallows in his “inadequacy”. With an idealistic progression of a hero’s mindset, he ends up centering himself both literally and figuratively with a message that it only takes effort and self love to make oneself the lead character in their own story.
With the genius direction by UNCANNY, Obongjayar succeeds in bringing a visual storytelling masterpiece to life.
