The Similarities Between Okomfo Kwadee And The Asakaa Boys

Okomfo Kwadee is one of Ghana’s music Legends. During the days when hiplife dominated the music scene, Okomfo Kwadee was a force to reckon with. His style was unfamiliar and made sure to leave a mark in the minds of Ghanaians. Some years down the line, a group emerges onto the scene known as the Asakaa boys who are also rubbing off the same energy as Okomfo Kwadee. These are the reasons we believe the Asakaa boys remind us of Okomfo Kwadee.

1. Unique Music Style

Although Okomfo Kwadee was a hip-life artist, his style was distinct and original. You’ll be hooked from start to finish if you ever listened to an Okomfo Kwadee song, and this was a quality that belonged to him and him alone. Similarly, the Asakaa lads created a brand-new musical style or genre called Asakaa that is comparable to the hip-hop subgenre drill but unique on its own.

2. Extensive Use of The Twi language

Okomfo Kwadee was a linguist at most and a master of the Twi language. He was the only one with the special ability to use Twi expressions to convey a feeling in a song. The feeling also seems to be evoked when listening to Asakaa Boys. The ease with which the Twi language flows and the use of slang and expressions that are common among Kumasi’s native folks.

3. Representing Kumasi

Ghana’s center of entertainment is known to be Accra. It is perceived that you need to be based in the capital in order to rule the airwaves. Occasionally, talented individuals emerge from different regions of the nation to become household names. One of the first acts based in Kumasi to have success was Okomfo Kwadee. The Asakaa boys from Kumerica can be characterized in the same way.

4. Music Video style

Okomfo Kwadee had most of his music videos set in a traditional household setting mostly depicting the communal Ghanaian lifestyle. This was primarily attributed to the songs’ storytelling elements. The same can be identified in the most of music videos of the Asakaa boys.

This does not in any way compare the two music talents. Both Okomfo Kwadee and the Asakaa boys have had a significant influence on the Ghanaian music scene and have inspired pride among their Kumasi fan base.
