iMullar’s 2022 Album Art Wall

2022 has been a fantastic year for music across the continent and the diaspora. From Southern to Northern Africa and the diaspora, we have curated some of the best albums released this year, both in terms of their body of work and the level of creativity applied to the project’s artwork. Each artwork on this wall perfectly encapsulates the story each artist was trying to convey in their projects. This wall is our team’s recognition and appreciation of the individual creative efforts working together to create cohesive musical projects.

The album art wall features myriad genres from various parts of the continent and the diaspora. This includes the all-dominating Afrobeats, afro house, altè music, grime, and Asakaa, as well as variations of electronic music with eclectic infusions from traditional music genres such as Tanzanian Gogo music, gqom, and soukous rhythms. It has been a successful year of redefining and reshaping what it means to make music as an African.

The team also shortlisted our top 10 albums this year that captured listeners’ hearts and minds across our community and beyond. These projects, we believe, set the bar when it came to creative direction, musicality, exploration of sound, as well as delivery, and finesse. They also serve as evident markers of the level of growth each artist on this list has achieved since their introduction into this industry.
