On Rotation: Songs you need in your life this week

Every week, the iMullar staff round up ten songs we cannot stop listening to, forming the weekly list of songs known as “On Rotation.” You heard these recommendations here first. From South to West Africa, to the UK, each track is guaranteed to be a vibe.

1. Kwaku The Traveler by Black Sheriff:

Just when I thought Lord Blacko could not get any better, he comes back so much harder with his new record. This is without a doubt the best Black Sheriff has sounded, and it makes me too excited to hear what this gifted man has to offer. Seriously Blacko, album soon?

2. WICKED CITY by Cruel Santino featuring Gus Dapperton:

The entire SUBARU BOYS album shocked me to my core when I listened, and I have no clue what it is about this track in particular, but it is just so good. I have no idea whether it’s the intensity it comes with or how Gus Dapperton’s presence works so incredibly well on this, but I’m completely obsessed.

3. Love Doc by Moliy

Say what you want to about this song, but Moliy knocked it out of the park with this one. I genuinely cannot count the number of times I’ve caught myself singing this. I just can’t help it. It’s a phenomenal song you’re going to be into the minute you hit play. Take it from me.

4.Nike by Asa:

I’m such a sucker for music that overflows with emotion, and Nike is such a good example. It’s without a doubt Asa’s finest, and I couldn’t possibly think of a better comeback song or comeback album from Asa.

5. Always by Darkoo and Black Sheriff:

Let me tell you, this song is a chart-topper for a reason. I remember waiting MONTHS for this track to be out into the world when Darkoo teased this snippet, and when I tell you it was well worth the wait, believe it. It doesn’t make sense how incredible this song is, and I’ve found myself unable to function properly without hearing it.

6. Non-Living Thing by Sarkodie featuring Oxlade:

One reason Sark is probably the best to ever do it in Ghanaian music is that his sound is timeless, and with Non-Living Thing, I felt it. I recall not giving it much mind when the album came out because it was all so good, but it absolutely grew on me when I listened after the heat of the album died. It’s absolutely a grower!

7. Heavens Gate by Burna Boy featuring Lily Allen:

Just in case you need the reminder as to why Burna Boy is one of the greatest Nigerian artists to bless the world, Heavens Gate does such a good job at proving that fact with such ease. I strongly believe there is no tune Burna cannot own because of the different forms his voice can take, and it’s such an incredible record, as I loved getting to piece together his energy and the sentiments behind his sound. As I said, I’m big on deep music, and that is what this record is, DEEP.

8. Oroma Baby by Rema:

On today’s episode of “Artists Taking The World By Storm”, Rama did the absolute most with his debut album “Rave & Roses”. But THIS SONG off the already golden album just sent me to a different dimension. As golden as the album in its entirety is, this record is easily my favourite and a very good enough reason to fall in love with Rema all the more.

9. Moodkilla by Haeven:

One thing I love about music is that the pool of goodness never stops flowing. In the course of discovering new sounds to enjoy, I got to experience Haeven, an emerging artist with such absurd talent. Moodkilla absolutely tested that talent, and for a debut single and an entrance into the music world, Haeven hit the ground running with this one. If this sets the tone for more music from this superstar, consider me a fan, and I’m affirmative it’ll be that way for you as well!

10. MAD by SuperJazzClub:

The fact that this song is on the bottom of my list does not mean that it is a bad song at all. SuperJazzClub is known to always be in the loop with it comes to playing with their sound and experimenting with newness, but with MAD, it’s a blend of the old and the new ways these incredibly gifted people have adopted. We love to see growth in music, and trust and believe that SJC Phase Two is going to be MAD. No pun intended.
