Every week, the iMullar staff round up ten songs we can’t stop listening to which forms the weekly list of songs known as “On Rotation.” You heard these combinations here first. From South to West Africa, then to the UK, each track is guaranteed to be a vibe.
- Little Simz featuring Obongjayar – Point And Kill
It is always nice to see Africans in the diaspora explore the sounds of their culture. Point and Kill has a slow build-up but the funk is undeniable as Little Simz rides through her homeland, showcasing the color and creativity of her heritage. Obongjayar is in amazing form serving rich vocals that compliment Little Simz’ sharp raps.
2. Fireboy DML – Peru
A classic jam for any turn-up. Whether you flew in from Miami, Accra, or Kumasi, Peru is a smooth dance anthem to get your blood pumping. Don’t miss out on this track. Put your seat in the upright position and enjoy the rest of your flight.
3. Scribz Riley- Mandy
Mandy is an emotional Afro-pop song that takes us through the painful realization that your love story might be over. Simple yet effective, Scribz delivers a thoughtful record that you can enjoy overthinking or crying to.
4. Dua Saleh ft Amaarae – fitt
Dua Saleh and Amaarae are a combo meal we can all get behind. “fitt” is sensual, raw, and rhythmic. Catch me whining slow and deep to this beautiful mashup of knocking bass, dreamy strings, and lush soprano vocals. Definitely worth a couple of replays to perfect your bedroom routine.
5. SGaWD – Whorephobia
Seddy aka SGaWD’s debut tape is almost ready but in the meantime, I had to revisit this iconic song. Originally first uploaded on SoundCloud, Whorephobia sees a refreshingly blunt Seddy take shots at opportunistic gossipers, harassers, and all-around slut-shamers. Grown people do grown things and she takes no prisoners with her hard-hitting bars and timely delivery.
6. lordkez ft Shekhinah- belladonna
l first encountered lordkez through her feature on “Lillies” by Nigerian alte singer AYLO. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Equipped with a velvety voice and a knack for witty lyrics, lordkez delivers an electric funk-filled house jam. Tapping Durban artist Shekhinah for a feature, the duo delivers warm, summery goodness on this light-hearted record.
7. Killertunes ft Odunsi (The Engine)-Do Me
Another whine-worthy tune. The song’s title speaks for itself. Effortlessly sensual lyrics from the duo allows for optimum beat appreciation otherwise creating a delicate yet freeing vibe. On rotation until further notice.
8. Play Nice – Pick Up Your Phone
Pick Up Your Phone is a mélange of soulful, rich voices that capture the feeling of longing to speak to your special person. Featuring the voices of stars like Tay Iwar, this track is a modern take on the neo-soul efforts of acts like Erykah Badu and more.
9. Tems- Crazy Tings
Crazy Tings are happening and yet life still has to go on. That can be difficult for a lot of us. Regardless of whether you turn to music or friends for comfort, Crazy Tings is a brilliant record to motivate and envelope us in Tems’ belief that we can all pull through.
10. ZSUPREME-Balenciaga
Balenciaga is a head-bopping trap record. ZSUPREME is a relatively new face even so the kid crafts a fun, catchy hit packed with bars that make you hit rewind with a quickness.
