NEW SOUNDS – WEEK 24

Each week, we accumulate a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear because music is the only universal language of peace and love. Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week and don’t forget who put you on these sounds.svg%3EThis list will be updated every day with new sounds released this week till Sunday.

Kweku Afro – Fiesta

Kweku Afro’s ‘Fiesta’ off his forthcoming EP ”Nothing to Something”, sweeps listeners into a glamorous party ambience, it’s overall vibe and energy is enough to grip the bodies of any party lover. According to Kweku Afro, his new song is simply one for enjoyment; nothing less, nothing more, but he further elaborates “for many, every waking day means a new phase of an endless hustle. This tune encourages us to sit back and count our blessings, however small”.

Chanda Mbao featuring Skales Jay Rox and Scott – The Final Wave 

Wave originally released in Zambia, had R&B talent, Scott, on the earlier version and turned out to be a hit which led to a remix dubbed ‘The Bigger Wave’ featuring South African and Mozambican heavyweights, Da L.E.S and Laylizzy. The newest and last version of the series titled ‘The Final Wave’ brings it to west Africa, Nigeria specifically, Skales adds a confident, melodic verse that fits right alongside Chanda Mbao’s and Jay Rox as Scott retains hook duties.

Quamina MP – Ohia Y3 Forken

‘Ohia y3 forken’ is the new Quamina MP song which literally translates to ‘Poverty is Forken’. I don’t think anyone can look at their past and not to be grateful for growth and how they’ve escaped the cruelty of poverty, in this new song, Quamina sings about how people looked down on him and swore he was never gonna be a hitmaker, he’s just singing this song to remind us that society will never associate with poor people so you have to work hard, make money and stay happy.

Yung Pabi & Magnom   – Guy No

Yung Pabi is telling the world he is the guy to watch out for or the yardstick when it comes to his type of music. “It’s a braggadocio song. Inspired by the saying, if you are believed in and you don’t believe in yourself, you’ve wasted the energy of your believers”. The song has Magnom who mixed and mastered the song as well. 

Koul Ef featuring Ugly $tanly – Look At Me

The talk about making money, becoming successful, living large and not living to impress others is one thing most musicians will continue to sing about till music disappears from us. Koul Ef and Ugly $tanly team up on this new trap jam titled ‘look at me now’. 

Eddy Koomson featuring MOG Music

The world has been moving crazy these past months, there’s been so much noise all over the world so it’s just right to listen to a spirit-filled song that has the power to calm your soul and lead you into the presence of God. ‘Jesu Lover Of My Soul’ features MOG music with the base guitar instruments by Eddy Koomson.

Rvdical the Kid featuring Yonkwi – Skimp on the Shrimp. 

Rvdical the Kid is a producer/artist who produced Tems’ latest single, ‘These Days’ and has done a lot of work with the super gifted Amaarae. Rvdical is releasing his EP next month but comes out with his first single from the project titled ‘Skimp on the Shrimp’ 

Sarkodie featuring Manifest – Brown Paper Bag

Sarkodie and Manifest have released their first song together, as much as we are excited about the collaboration, we are also particularly excited about the message in the song. ‘Brown Paper  Bag’ addresses issues in the social and political space with references to the slavery of the African mind and how to gain freedom from the oppressor. This is one for the books, we hope you enjoy and learn a thing or two.

Camidoh – Maria

Camidoh’s ‘Contingency Plan’ is a 6-track EP set to be released on the 3rd of July, the first single off the tape titled ‘Maria’ is out and it’s a great way to let us in on what he has for us. Maria seems like the type of girl every man wants, one who gives him peace and is nothing but a blessing. Big shoutouts to all the Marias out there, we appreciate you. 

KQ Beatz & Teebee – Bumbum

In this song, Teebee reminisces and showers praise on a past lover for her physical endowments, laden with heavy percussive production, memorable slangs (lamba), melodies and adlibs “Bum Bum” ticks all the boxes for an anthem. Bum Bum is produced by KQ Beatz and it’s the lead single off “African Groove” (a producer x artist) upcoming EP.

Phaemous – Forbidden 

‘Forbidden’ sounds like a song you need to be extra cautious when listening to but it’s nothing like that. Phaemous just turned 22 and he’s ready to begin the proper journey of life, he expresses his willingness to learn new things in order to experience growth and also to make his lover happy in his new song ‘Forbidden’. 

J.Derobie – My People

J.Derobie reflects and talks to us about where he comes from on a dancehall rhythmic sound titled ‘My People’. J.Derobie makes reference to the lifestyle of many people in different cities in Ghana, not everyone gets it easy from where he comes from but he leaves us with the understanding that ‘his people’ are determined and have the spirit to work hard to reach their goals. 

Cruel Santino featuring Octavian – End of the wicked

After quite a long break, Cruel Santino has released his first official song of the year the song  ‘End Of The Wicked’ features fellow-alté singer Octavian. Cruel Santino and Octavian combine effort to deliver an uptempo rhythm which blends just perfectly, with Santi’s smooth Raga Vibe and Octavian’s killer verse it’s obvious we have one bop for summer. 

Larry Gaaga featuring M.I Abaga & Efya – Hold On

‘Hold On’ is not the everyday loud beats, danceable tunes from Larry Gaaga, this song sends out a message to everyone in these difficult times. A message of motivation, hope, survival and aiming for success powerfully crafted by M.I Abaga from Nigeria and songstress Efya from Ghana. Hold On, Change is coming.

Avit – Vibe 

‘Vibe’ is a mellow, mid-tempo afrobeats song, where Avit philosophizes on the pressures of life and the desire to achieve and be more, but also the need to let go and unwind when the need be. The song was produced by talented Ghanaian producer Kuvie, let’s vibe to this. 

Rema – Ginger Me

Rema just dropped another banger and we are loving it. ‘Ginger Me’ is a typical love song for first lovers, falling in love for the first time comes with butterflies, joy and so much more, Rema seems to be experiencing it so he tells us more in this song. 

Bryan The Mensah – Seeing Is Believing

‘Seeing is Believing’ is a popular saying we are all familiar with but Bryan makes us understand that because of this statement, most people have missed a lot, if you need to see before you believe then you’ll miss out on people’s achievements because not everyone likes to show their success. This and more to learn in Bryan The Mensah’s first single ‘Seeing is Believing’ off his upcoming tape ‘Not Going Outside’, keep your fingers crossed and get ready for all the goodness.

Kibra featuring Kojo Cue – Another Sun

‘Another Sun’ is a funky afro-fusion beat seamlessly paired with smooth R&B vocals featuring Ghanaian rapper Kojo-Cue; representing the synthesis of African and diasporic cultures. It speaks on self-love and appreciating the journey towards becoming your best self, considering the issues on racial injustices that have been recently amplified, Kibra hopes this song inspires resiliency, resistance and unity.

Master KG featuring Burna Boy and Nomcebo Zikod – Jerusalema Remix

The wave that came with the original ‘Jerusalema’ is still in the system but here’s something better to jam to. Master KG has thrilled fans with the remix of Jerusalema and the song features Nomcebo Zikode who was on the original, the best part is the feature from Burna Boy and he went off with the hit verse, please enjoy this one because we love it too. 

Efya Nokturnal featuring Various Artists – Stronger Together 

There is strength in unity and togetherness, Efya recruits various artists on a Kuvie produced song titled ‘Stronger Together’ and powered by Jumia. The artists sing about precautionary measures necessary, dos and don’ts needed for these Covid-19 times. The artists are Pappy Kojo, Ponobiom, Feli Nuna, Kojo Cue, Bosom-P Yung, Fancy Gaddam, and CJ Biggerman. Stay safe, stay protected because this too shall pass.

 

Projects

Skales – Healing EP

Nigerian Afro Dance artiste Skales takes us on a journey in his ‘Healing EP’. The 6-song tape represents our everyday life, what we go through, the struggles, the setbacks, the good and the bad and everything all together. In our pursuit for success and happiness, we go through a lot and we end up hurting ourselves or causing damage sometimes so in the process of fixing these damages or pain we go through a healing process and that’s basically what Skales is talking to us about in his EP.

Jean Feier – Grand Theft Demo (Deluxe)

A soundscape inspired by survival, love and self-actualisation. Grand Theft Demo is a wave of flowing energy, Jean talks about shedding the burden of pain while navigating the depth of her pain, she fuses it together with confidence and hope which leaves a bittersweet taste in the songs, its a feeling of victory after a long bloody battle. “I picture a field filled with adversaries with me standing on a mound with a sword in the air declaring the end of a battle and the beginning of my reign”.

Prettyboy D-O – Wildfire 

I just heard someone say “PRETTYBOYDO  never misses” and I couldn’t agree less. Prettyboydo’s new album is literally fire so it’s just right that he named it ‘Wildfire’. The album goes from jam to jam from ‘Waka’ through to ‘Mentally’ which features WANI, then it moves to give us calm vibes on ‘Bulala’ featuring Solana. The tempo rises up on ‘Wetin you smoke’ featuring Olamide, mid-tempo ‘reality’ speaks on real-life happenings, Prettyboydo ends the album with his hit song ‘Dey Go Hear Wehh’. 8 top jams for a long weekend, have fun with it.

NSG  – ROOTS 

NSG is a London based music group consisting of 6 members from Ghana and Nigeria, on the 10th of May, the group announced the release of their mixtape ‘ROOTS’, the 18-track album has some of our favourite NSG pre-released songs on it; Options, Ourselves, OT Bop, Trust Issues, Porsche and Grandad which was released yesterday. The group really went all out to give us dancehall, afrobeats, hip-hop, rap and good tunes to jam to, we can’t pick our favourite song now so we urge you to jam to them all.
