NEW SOUNDS – Week 7
Each week, we accumulate a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear because music is the only universal language of peace and love. Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week and don’t forget who put you on these sounds.

Twitch – “Save Me” Remix
There’s definitely more to the music we hear than just beats and lyrics, there’s always a special message in every song and it’s no different from the remix of Twitch’s “save me”, the remix features Medikal and Kweku Smoke. All three artists take turns to talk about their music hustle as they seek help from God. The lyrics in the song is not relatable to only musicians but it’s for anyone out there working hard and putting their all into their craft or profession, all of the struggles will never be in vain.
Ginius – “No Sponsor”
No sponsor by Ghanaian-British Afro swing artist Ginius talks about the strong independent woman being able to do it all by themselves (they don’t need no man type of mentality). The message in this self-produced song is to encourage females to keep working hard for themselves and not rely on any other person to make them better. The second verse, however, talks to guys about how to move to a woman and get her attention. the irony of life huh!
Shirazee featuring SAINt JHN – “JUJU”
JUJU means almost the same thing everywhere in the world, it means a spell or to cast a spell, it’s also the same in Benin and I know this because Shirazee’s new song “JUJU” which features SAINt JHN makes it clearer. According to Shirazee Juju is a very special song to him because it is a sonic memory capsule of a specific interaction he had with someone that he felt had a spell on him, recording this song was his attempt at breaking the spell, “still not sure I have succeeded but so far so good.
Kobla Jnr featuring Ria Boss – “OnChill”
The first song off “The Sex Tape” by Kobla Jnr is out and it features Ria Boss. The tape has 9 songs which will be released one after the other. This song is everything you need for that perfect time with your lover, red lights, cosy room and all of that, it’s the right song and trust me you need it in your playlist.
Marince Omario – “Oxford Street”
A typical Ghanaian will know exactly Oxford Street is, but for anyone who doesn’t know, Oxford street is one of the busiest streets in Accra, Osu to be precise. The hip hop theme song gives an insight into life on Oxford street.
Questo featuring Moor Sound and Skillz – “Go Crazy”
This song is a reflection of how powerful Questo feels anytime he creates music, in his opinion, every creative should feel powerful anytime they create. “I came up with the concept sitting through the whole session while Moor Sound produced that same beat so yeah Moor Sound inspired Go Crazy”. its the perfect mood for that kind of rush and feeling; the electric guitars, the whole tempo, its beautiful chaos. They really went crazy on this one.
Carl Keegan – “Deja Vu”
StoneAge Clan in-house producer Carl Keegan taps Purple Masque for his new single titled “Deja Vu”. Setting the mood for Purple Masque to reminisce past feelings with syrupy bedroom vocals. The production features a slow dark-toned pop delight with a blend of African melodies and drums with heavy sub-bass. Together, both rising artists present a tranquillizing contemporary banger.
Essilfie featuring Nii Amu- “Hurt”
Hurt’ is an Afro House record that allows listeners to take heartbreak from both perspectives in a light and comedic way. Two lovers trying to rekindle lost love, with a guest verse by Nii Amu and production by Kuvie.
Amaarae – “No Vex”
No Vex is Amaarae’s new release to the rap in paper platform, her sweet and sultry tones take us through this freestyle delivered over the beat produced by Yinoluu. With her effortless combination of pidgin and English, Amaarae flexes her lyrical versatility on this new and she continues to prove to us that when it comes to the Altè scene, she’s the one to watch out for.
Tanasha featuring Diamond – “GERE”
Coming to you all the way from Kenya, Tanasha Donna features Diamond Platinumz on her new love song, “GERE”. Gere’ means jealous and the two love birds sing about committing to each other against the backdrop of envious people trying to bring them down. The song is beautiful I must admit.
Keziah Mallam – “In Your Dreams”
“In Your Dreams” is about peace, love and having a connection with someone in the form of what some people may perceive to be a lullaby. Peace, because your dreams are meant to be a tranquil resting space where you can temporarily get away from the care of life and catch a glimpse of what you desire most. The love side of the song is shown more in the poem/ spoken word part. It’s somewhat of a serenade to your beloved letting them know you’re all for them and they can count on you and the love you have to give. The connection aspect is seen throughout the song but is really synonymous with the love spoken/ sung about. Keziah Mallam is a British born Nigerian who is sending positive vibes in her new self produced song.
Rema featuring Rvssian – “Beamer” (Bad Boys)
Rema has released his first official single of the year titled “Beamer”, the song was produced by Jamaican record producer Rvssian. The song talks about the life of a “bad boy” but in an appealing way. The afro-pop star dropped a remix to his hit single “Dumebi” which featured Becky G. We can never get tired of a Rema jam, let’s enjoy this as we wait for more bangers throughout the year.
Rema – “Rainbow”
I knew we were gonna get more songs from Rema this year but I didn’t see it coming this way, right after releasing “Beamer”, he dropped another new one titled “Rainbow”. Rainbow is full of colourful vibes just like the rainbow we all know. Rema looks like he’s going to be having so much fun with his music this year and we don’t hate fun either so we are here for all of it.
Trina South featuring Shasha – “Love Me”
Empawa Africa’s quest to push young talents still continues with the release of “love me” by Zambian afro-pop artist Trina South, the song features Shasha. Love me is a love song obviously, speaking to lovers to show their significant others to the world, no lowkey type of love, “if you love me, don’t wanna be lowkey”, let the world know it if you truly love someone.
Benny King – “Valentine”
It’s still the love season and Benny Kong’s’ love song titled “valentine” is out, it’s late for valentines but not too late for the love season. where you’ve found your valentine or not enjoy this music by Kenny, play it for your crush or your lover and set a mood for a lovely moment.
King Promise – “Sisa”
I’ve never heard a bad song from King Promise, from his voice to the way he blends the languages (English, Twi, Ga and pidgin) into beautiful hi-life music is something we all love and his new song “Sisa” is no different. On a beat produced by Guilty Beatz, King Promise talks to us about the changes he is seeing in his girl, I don’t know how the love thing works but if you’re seeing changes in her behaviour, play this song for her, let her listen to the lyrics very well and watch magic happen.
Koko Bongo – “Kill Bill”
The chorus of this song is solely inspired by the movie, kill bill (2003). “The Bride” who is the protagonist in the movie is dressed in a yellow tracksuit with a touch of black.
she doesn’t rest until she kills her aggressor, Bill. Like many hip hop verses, Kill Bill has its share of cocky verses. “The grind don’t stop”. You don’t rest until you’ve killed your Bill. you don’t rest until you’ve got the job done.
DredW – “Lovers Inn II”
DredW, music producer and DJ brings another installment of his Lovers Inn mix. This is said to be the second version of it, as the first was released on the same day last year 2019. TAPE/EP
Bryan The Mensah – “I Don’t Feel Like Going Outside“
Bryan the Mensah has a different vibe when it comes to his music, he is usually calm with his flow but it hits hard if you know what I’m saying. He likes to talk about money, business-related things and real-life issues. “I don’t feel like Going Outside” is not an antisocial type of tape, it’s a fusion of trap and afrobeat with songs that are business and money related as usual like “Forbes” and “Deposits” which features Tulenkey, “Dimirka” and “Build My Home” are two others on the 4-track EP.
Stone Age Clan – “Clan Gallery“
Stone Age Clan comes out strong with an intense ground-breaking EP. The independent collective made up of Rap Artists: King Joey, Shizzle & Wavy Willy with Producers: Badszn and Carl Keegan, deliver a short but intense preview of their combined reality. Each member of the Clan showcases their art while seamlessly complimenting each other and opening themselves up to what is true as pictured on the project cover. Throughout the EP, you hear clear evidence of influences stretching far beyond their Ghanaian borders told through raspy, auto-tuned tales and dark 808 heavy productions establishing a distinct sound sets them apart from the lot.
