Raytheboffin is a Nigerian music producer with a knack for experimenting with distinct sounds. From growing up in Nigeria to studying in Ukraine and having the rest of the world at his fingertips, you can only imagine the sounds he has been exposed to and remains to be today. As one-half of the music duo, Riverways, Raytheboffin has produced and mixed the entirety of their songs. He also has produced for the likes of Jess ETA and Ekene. Now, Raytheboffin has broadened the solo side of his artistry with the release of his debut EP, ‘Run Boy, Run’ on May 27.
‘Run Boy, Run’ reflects Raytheboffin’s self-journey thus far and encouragement to keep going. In ensuring that he portrayed this journey in the most authentic way possible, Raytheboffin collaborated with artists with whom he has great relationships and could share those same sentiments.
Just as this EP reflects a self-journey, we as listeners are taken on a musical journey with what starts with the low-key entrance of ‘What Do You Know?’ with a breakdown that sounds almost extra-terrestrial. Then, the house anthem, ‘No Fair’, has a funk flair taking it up a notch. And finally ending with a befitting closing track: ‘New Design’.
Each track has eccentric nuances as you progress from one song to the other as Raytheboffin fused hip-hop, house, alté and even jazz into this EP!
‘Run boy, Run’ is a lovely soundscape for the avid listener.
