“Fire, fire, fire… fire in my soul is burning”, the first words Darkovibes croons in the K.P. Selorm directed Comforter video. The video, released on 18th January 2022 is the latest single off his 2020 released Kpanlogo album (better late than never). The slow-tempo love song tells the singer’s love interest of how important she is to him and that she is his Comforter in times of distress. The imagery and theme of its accompanying visuals strongly depict the message of the song.
The video begins with a recorded video from one of the Afrobeats dynamo’s concert performances with screams from adoring fans. It then quickly pans over to a scene with an adorable little boy offering a bouquet of flowers to an equally adorable little girl.
This scene depicts puppy love, and what is more comforting than puppy love? We are also given glimpses of the two sweethearts having a conversation in a parlour with a concert playing on the Cathode Ray Tube television in the background which could be symbolic of the fact that when he is with his Comforter, everything else including the fame is in the rearview.
The three-minute and thirty-eight secs long music video consist of behind-the-scenes videos of the singer’s life. This includes footage from various concert performances with King Promise and Shatta Wale as well as studio sessions with famed American hip hop heavyweights Vic Mensa and Chance the Rapper. Which puts into perspective how bright Darko’s star is at the moment).

There are also intimate scenes of him with his friends, recording, on a boat, chilling, and having a good time. Though it is difficult to see how this adds to the storyline with the kids, it was a nice addition to the visuals for this love song, giving us closer look at Darkovibes not just as a performer but also as a man and a friend.
Interlaced in the music video are views of the self-acclaimed “Cool Paul” lying in bed with tears streaming down his face. The minimalistic nature of this scene shows a more vulnerable side to Darkovibes than we are used to seeing. The tears are a symbol of the yearning for his lady who is his Comforter in the hardest of times. Bearing out his soul and emotions for his audience to see just how true his words are.
Overall, the video has a nostalgic ambiance from the imagery and scenery, giving off an early 2000s highlife video feel. The kind of video that has you missing someone that does not exist; all released just in time for Valentine’s Day! The visuals gave us a more endearing and heartfelt look at Darkovibes and hopefully, there is more sensitive material like this in store for his audience.
