June 2020’s Best
June saw the raise of some young talents out of the capital, Accra. The month served as a build-up for many projects we’ve seen released in July that got us grinding and jamming in quarantine and in isolation. Artists Like Camidoh, J.Derobie, Bryan The Mensah and more served us with the taste of July. Here is our pick from the lot in June.
1. Bryan the Mensah – “Seeing is Believing”
Bryan the Mensah on this song talks to us about the act of believing in the unseen, he makes us understand that you don’t always have to see before you believe, you can actually believe before you see and this determines how strong your faith is.
2. Efya featuring Tiwa Savage – “The One”
Love is a beautiful thing, so they say, finding the perfect person is not always easy but once you find them everything becomes equal to perfect. Efya and Tiwa blend their melodious vocals on this song of finding true love titled ‘The One’.
3. J. Derobie – “My People”
On his debut EP ‘Nungua Diaries’, J Derobie fuses dancehall rhythms with love lyrics to make this beautiful sensual song called ‘My People’. The Guiltybeatz produced song is one of our favourites from the tape and we thought you should listen to it too.
4. Quamina MP – “Ohia Y3 Forken”
No musician has ever praised poverty in their song, not because they don’t want to but because poverty doesn’t deserve any praise. A lot of people will agree with us but Quamina MP agrees with us more and it’s evident in his song ‘Ohia Y3 Forken’.
5. Yung Pabi – “Guy No”
Yung Pabi is telling the world he is the guy to watch out for or the yardstick when it comes to his type of music. “It’s a braggadocio song. Inspired by the saying, if you are believed in and you don’t believe in yourself, you’ve wasted the energy of your believers”.
6. Camidoh – “Hot Pursuit”
Camidoh believes not everyone wants to see him win in his musical journey, some wish him well whiles others wish he will fail. In ‘Hot Pursuit’ he sings in his local dialect and pidgin about how people envy him and his craft but he still rises above the hate regardless.
7. Jean Feier featuring Wavy the Creator – “Airways”
Every song has a special message in it, you will have to listen to it very well to get the message the musician is sending, Jean Feier and Wavy The Creator teamed up on ‘Airways’ to send us a message of positive vibes, peace, good energy and being the best version of yourself.
8. E.L featuring Kwame Dame, Dr Laylow – “Change My Story”
“Change My Story” is an anthem that is sure to reflect the feelings that run through the minds of many. Gain some inspiration by enjoying the track here.
9. Siriboe – “Confidence”
Siriboe’s creativity doesn’t end at design, creative direction and photography, it extends to music and his debut song ‘Confidence’ has all the motivation we all need to move on to doing different things in our lives.
10. Questo – “Abrantie”
In a quest to promote Fante culture and the #stopsmokingcigarrettes campaign, Questo’s first single off his upcoming ‘Ananse’ EP is an unapologetic confession of cigarette habits. Inspired by Joey B’s song ‘Cigarettes’, Questo referred to the hook of Joey’s song since it served the purpose for which he made this song.
11. Ehu featuring Tamate – “Run Up”
What lengths are you willing to go to prove your love to someone? In ‘Run Up’, Ehu and Tamatè sing about running to the end and beyond just to show the extent of their love for each other.
