“For Me by Me” EP Soon
Artist and Producer Brook Benson’s debut project, “For Me by Me” EP, is a mix of emotions and unfiltered thoughts composed diligently to allow listeners to hear a genuine and more personal side of him. Coming February 15th, Benson’s range of up-tempo, euphoric productions to gloomy one’s effortlessly matches the sentiments heard in his lyrics in the 7 track, 14 minute tape. From his upbringings, to his emphasis on mental health, to his existential thoughts about religion and life as a black individual, Benson manages to show listeners his mental state over the past few years in such a short time.
Handling most of the project by himself, Benson began working on “For Me by Me” as a personal project back in October of 2018, as it started out as more of an emotional outlet for him. It wasn’t until the start of the new year when Benson decided he wanted to release his music publicly. Since then, he brought along his old roommate Andre Ruiz to engineer the project and the two managed to do it all on their own (with the help of close friend Bayofor the “No Compromise” prod.), teaching themselves all the tools they needed. Benson take’s pride in keeping his work in-house, as he subtly chants “put on my grave it’s in-house everything” on the outro track “F.M.B.M.”
This is only the start for Benson, as it is the first of a 2-part EP concept;the next one named “Hard R EP,” a much more energetic, defiant project. Coming out of the Inland Empire in SoCal, Benson’ssound can’t be put in a box as he’s shown with just his 2 singles, “Head in the Water” off of F.M.B.M. EP and “Heart Like CommeDes”off of Hard R EP, the former a more mellow hip hop vibe with the latter more or lessa screamotrack. Benson wants you to know that he’s here to experiment all the different genres he grew up on and won’t be limited by the stigmas of contemporary artistry.
