On “Still In Charge”, BNXN Affirms That He Is Still Your Captain

BNXN is one artist in this music space who can confidently boast of never being boxed into a singular sound. His genre-bending ability feels effortless, backed by expansive vocals and production choices that consistently highlight his versatility. He is the rare act that can seamlessly meander across multiple records without losing his footing: call him an Afro-R&B artist, a soulful crooner, an Afrobeats architect, an Afro-Pop hitmaker, or a pure Pop musician. Neither label would be wrong. That is how definitively good he is. Throughout his career, BNXN has been essential in every piece of music he touches; whether helming a solo record or elevating a feature, he cannot be overshadowed. Whether laying down smooth, lush vocals on a verse, hook, chorus, or bridge, his command remains absolute.

With “Still In Charge“, he doubles down on that legacy. The title demands multiple interpretations: BNXN remains fully in charge of his creative mindset, artistic trajectory, personal journey, and place within the broader soundscape. He even controls the listener’s headspace, occupying room rent-free. Across the project, he maintains his signature smooth, danceable persona. Navigating multiple genres and sonic palettes while preserving your core identity is a monumental task, yet he pulls it off with disarming ease.

The project opens with “Eja Meja,” featuring Asake. If you have followed BNXN’s trajectory, you know he rarely brings features onto his projects unless he has absolute confidence in an artist’s ability to align seamlessly with his vision. Asake executes his role brilliantly. Over a chill, mid-tempo groove, both artists reiterate their standing in the global Afrobeats landscape, trading affirmations, reflections, and personal perspectives. From that mid-tempo foundation, the project pivots into “Online,” a vibrant, inherently danceable record centered on a clear thesis: living fully in the moment. Here, “Online” transcends its digital definition. It becomes a directive to be present, active, aware, warm, and genuinely happy: to live and enjoy life on your own terms rather than merely existing. With a stacked itinerary, memories to build, conversations to hold, and moments to savor, BNXN uses the track to remind us that being “online” means showing up for your own life.

While championing the good life, BNXN keeps the trajectory clear on “16,” shifting focus back to the unrelenting drive required to power your own engine. He delves into the relentless work ethic required to realize a vision, a mindset he has carried since he was sixteen. Even when offering a touch of vulnerability by addressing a loved one who walks away, he refuses to lose sight of the end goal; no distraction is worth derailing his focus. That narrative of ambition deepens on “Deliberate Work.” Where “16” establishes the raw engine of hard work, “Deliberate Work” introduces the blueprint for smart execution. BNXN distinguishes himself from those who merely labor by focusing on diligent work that yields tangible results and drives revenue. It offers an intimate look into a winner’s mindset: work hard, work smart, convert effort into capital, and build sustainably. When bad actors or unscrupulous partners try to undermine or shortchange him, they inevitably fail and get cut off.

On “Shamaya,” featuring FOLA, the focus turns toward navigating romance under the harsh glare of the spotlight. It touches on the difficulty of staying on course when another person enters your world, showing that you can nurture a relationship without surrendering your identity,  focus, or ultimate ambition. Both artists articulate the value of a partner who aligns with your goals, someone who makes the journey easier, draws closer when called upon, and lightens the load. The EP concludes with “If You Like,” a track that revives the lost art of true yearning in modern love songs. BNXN sings of a deep, forbidden longing for a significant other, willing to offer complete devotion despite external noise, doubtful friends, and lingering naysayers. He surrenders control to love, positioning himself as an unwavering anchor for the one who holds his heart.

All in all, “Still In Charge” stands out as an exceptionally cohesive body of work, easily one of 2026’s most fluidly structured projects. From the opening declaration of “Eja Meja” straight through to the emotional resolution of “If You Like,” BNXN delivers an uninterrupted narrative arc that cements his position at the very top.
