The groundbreaking Start From Scratch initiative has wrapped its transformative debut year in Lagos, powered by HOMECOMING™ and technology partner AlphaTheta. The program’s first African run, hosted at the new HOMECOMING™ space, shattered expectations, forging a vibrant new model for hands-on DJ education on the continent and laying a powerful foundation for a significantly scaled-up vision in 2026.
Having established its curriculum in hubs like London, Berlin, and Paris, Start From Scratch found a resonant new home in Lagos. The city’s inaugural class in September sold out immediately, with relentless demand defining subsequent sessions through the year. The initiative equips absolute beginners with DJing’s core fundamentals; from beatmatching and technical theory to the art of sonic storytelling and cultivating a unique artistic identity.
The Lagos sessions were elevated by a curated lineup of mentors defining Africa’s current sound, including Dope Caesar, Weareallchemicals , Honeeay, and the collectives Dencity, Floss, and Femme Africa. This direct access to innovators fostered an electric climate of community and creative confidence, allowing newcomers to learn from the very artists shaping the scene’s future.
This Lagos chapter expands HOMECOMING™’s global mentor network, which includes names like Major League DJz, Spinall, and Gina Jeanz, while cementing a deeper, long-term investment in Africa’s DJ culture and creative infrastructure. More than a workshop series, Start From Scratch, backed by AlphaTheta’s industry-leading gear, has become a vital platform for skill-building and opening professional pathways.
Buoyed by the overwhelming response in 2025, HOMECOMING™ and AlphaTheta are now crafting an ambitious 2026 program with plans promising an expanded reach across more cities, increased sessions, and a richer curriculum, all designed to amplify the opportunities ignited in Lagos for the next wave of DJs.
