Pappybryce, in collaboration with MBA for Africa, delivers an exhilarating seven-track project that details Pappybryce’s life from his perspective. The project covers themes of love, pursuit, daily life, hustle, and motivation. On the opening track, “Intro (Hello)” Pappy’s flow is aggressive, introducing his audience to the topics he’s going to address. He’s patient, not willing to get ahead of himself. He’s confident and is ready to rid himself and the audience of every doubt about his talents and his journey.
On “Black Gold”, he speaks about his hustle, the motivation to leave home every day to make it. He reminisces about his humble background, using it as fuel to grind harder than most people who had had a head start in life. In life, money is power and black gold is our ultimate currency.
“Feeling Myself” is an anthem of confidence, self-worth, and self-love. To project class and prestige, one must love oneself more than the next person. Pappybryce does not shy away from the record in letting the audience know that he’s unapologetically full of himself. The production of “H.I.M.Y.M” is this writer’s favorite. The saxophone riffs at the beginning and throughout the record are just *Chef’s kiss*. He expresses his interest in a lady, making subtle and sly moves to get her affection.
“Live In The Moment” is a possible fan favorite. Emly’s verse is direct and sonically complementary to Pappybryce’s smooth flow. Emily and Pappy speak on the need to live and make the most of life in the present. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so love, laugh, and love to the fullest in each message and we can firmly say that a message is delivered in the most sonically pleasing way possible. The same sentiment is extended in “No More”. Pappybryce chooses to dwell only on the positives of life. BlvckRue’s vocals are so majestic on this record that they make the message so wholesome and so appealing to listen to. They reiterate the message to take all the negative emotions that come from unfortunate circumstances from their mind and march on into the future and onto their goals and dreams with a positive mindset with determination and peace of mind.
The last record is a perfect end to a solid project. He draws the curtains with a motivational record to reassure himself and the audience that he is going to be alright no matter the situation that he or the audience finds themselves in at this present moment.
“Pappybryce Is The Name” is a perfect encapsulation of what a project is supposed to be sequenced and curated. From the start to the end of the project, the story is told in detail from humble beginnings, self-love, confidence to a positive mindset to achieve everything that one seeks out of life. A beautifully written and sequenced project that deserves to be enjoyed in its natural form from the intro to the outro.
