There is a claim that HipHop’s foundation is Jamaican culture. Reggae was the dominant sound of the 1970s before rap culture began to take off. The reggae tune connected most African Americans to their roots and influenced a movement now called HipHop. We highlight six songs that successfully blend Rap and Reggae to produce the ideal fusion of the two genres.

The young Jamaican sensation Koffee who doubles as a singer-songwriter and reggae artist featured American rapper Gunna on her hit single W in 2019. After her breakout single in 2018 -toast, she released a W, a song that encourages people to focus on their wins and not losses.

Early this year, the King of Reggae and the King of African Rap released a fresh rendition of the timeless song stir it up.
Mavado ft Nicki Minaj- GIve It All To Me

“Give It All To Me” is a classic banger that was released in 2013 by Jamaican Dancehall and reggae artist Mavado. It features BET and VMA award-winning Hip hop artist Nicki Minaj.
Kranium ft Ty Dollar $ign- Nobody Has To Know

It’s often said that good music never goes out of style, and this classic tune by Kranium, titled “Nobody Has To Know,” is a perfect example. A love melody that features American Hip Hop star Ty Dollar $ign.
Gyptian ft Nicki Minaj- Hold Yuh Remix

The Queen of Rap and Jamaican Reggae act, Gyptian came together to create perhaps the greatest Reggae remix in history. Hold Yuh Remix extensively dominated the airwaves in 2013.
Damian Marley and Nas – Patience

One of the greatest collaborations over the past decade. The song “patience” was born from “Distant Relatives”, a collaborative studio album by American rapper Nas and Jamaican reggae vocalist Damian Marley. The pair fusing hip-hop and reggae musical elements, also incorporated samples from African music into the album.
