On Rotation: Songs you need in your life this week

Every week, the iMullar staff round up ten songs we cannot stop listening to, forming the weekly list of songs known as “On Rotation.” You heard these recommendations here first. From South to West Africa, to the UK, each track is guaranteed to be a vibe.

1. Dior, Dior Dior – Adekunle Gold ft. Foushee

Some artists are like wine and they get better with time in ways you never expected. Adekunle Gold is one of them. His rebranding and music style has been nothing but progressive over the years and from his new album, Catch Me If You Can, we are currently stuck on this beautiful number featuring American R&B/Soul singer, Foushee. It’s obviously a love song and the smoothness and softness of the whole song is just to die for.

2. Until I See You – BRYAN THE MENSAH ft. Titi Owusu

BRYAN THE MENSAH’s Until I See You is one of our favourite love songs out right now. It features Titi Owusu, an incredibly good singer with strong vocals that convey the emotions they’re trying to depict, beautifully. It’s a cute emotional story of two people, very much in love and struggling with the difference in schedules that are preventing them from spending more time with each other. If you’d like to bawl your eyes out while marvelling at the vocals, production and storytelling, this song is your fix.

3. Believe – Offei ft. Amartey

Don’t you just love it when artists hop on the Amapiano wave and find a way to own it in a way that gives it some authenticity? That’s exactly how you’d feel listening to Offei’s Believe. His vocals are a given but for us, it’s the catchy lyrics on the hook and how the delivery in the Ghanaian Twi language just adds the right flavour.

4. Lovin 21 – Baaba J

Baaba J’s style usually makes an impact on your first listen. After releasing an EP in 2020, it wasn’t until last year that she started to get some recognition. Lovin 21 is a late 2021 release. I love the song for its simplicity and carefree lyrics that make you feel young and alive.

5. Lil Kesh – Don’t Call Me ft. Zinoleesky

Lil Kesh undoubtedly made a huge comeback with this song and it is no wonder the song is currently topping charts in Nigeria. Following the current Amapiano wave, Lil Kesh and the Marlian, Zinoleesky weave through the song delivering Quotables with every line. “Don’t Call Me” is the kind of song that feels like a prayer but at the same time the kind of song you want to jam to.

6. Pull Up – Koffee

Koffee’s finally working on a new project titled “Gifted”, to be released in March and thankfully, every single she’s released off the project makes you want to go on holiday and party for days straight. “Pull Up” is our chosen feel-good song on rotation.

7. Gbefun – Almighty Trei ft. Brazy

Afrobeats sounds so sweet sometimes and on Gbefun, you get to experience this. Almighty Trei sings about the intersections of money, girls, and relationships while Brazy professes his love for his love interest. It’s a great song that’s danceable to and leaves you singing a few words with the artiste by the end of the song.

8. Feeling How We Do – Kawabanga

The Asakaa movement has proven time and time again that they are here for the long run in the Ghanaian music space and with the rate at which the rappers are giving us individual solid projects, we cannot help but believe this. Kawabanga’s “God Bless Kawabanga” recently dropped and if you love the rawness that comes with Asakaa music, you’d keep this song on repeat too.

9. Afraid To Lose You – Kwabena Kwabena

It looks like Kwabena Kwabena is bent on making it his life’s mission to make everyone fall in love with him through his music. He’s succeeding because this latest release is right on time for Valentine’s Day. In Highlife tones, Kwabena Kwabena croons about his fear of losing the love of his life in a voice that just might make you cry.

The Nigerian artiste has an obvious unique sound that pays homage to his African roots. “Try” is off his upcoming album “Some Nights I Dream Of Doors” to be released in May. Obongjayar has a beautiful voice and he merges genres in a way that just makes his music art. Try is a poetic song about life. As he sings and urges you to try, push forward and don’t give up just yet.

10. Try – Obongjayar

On rotation is your weekly dose of musical geniuses to your library. Our editors update this playlist frequently, so if you see something you like, add it to your library.
