On Rotation: Songs You Need In Your Life This Week

An excellent selection of songs, if we do say so ourselves, that the iMullar team currently have ‘On Rotation’, listen to all ten in our playlist in no particular order.

  1. Liya – Adua

Coming off her debut project titled Alari, Liya delivers this powerful offering. After stepping onto the scene with major label backing, the DMW recording artist truly showcases her enchanting vocals across the length of the EP. On a project whose name in Yoruba translated to being separate and standing out,  ‘Adua’ for me is a standout track.

  1. Bryann – Andale

The laidback party record from Nigeria’s lover boy, translating to “let’s go” in Spanish, is simply that: a representation of the moment you decide you’re going out: to the club, to a party, to any location with a good set of speakers. One for your ‘we outside’ playlists, the track is a real concoction of sounds that cannot be bound to the constraints of one genre. We’re looking forward to what Bryann creatively delivers next.

  1. Manna – To Feel

The London-based, multi-hyphenate artist has released her long-awaited first release of the year. The song is an introspective take on life’s most difficult experiences, those so soul-draining the only thing left is the literal ability ‘To Feel’. Drawing from personal occurrences in her own life, with Manna’s sultry vocals and raspy tone over the soulful instrumentation, we explore every emotion with her.

  1. OG Emmy featuring Izzik – Remy Money

A light touch dance anthem about being paid what you’re worth. The infectious good vibes on this track are piloted by this duo who bounce off each other’s signature style. Definitely worth a replay!

  1. Odeal – Mr Workerman

As we are gearing up to hopefully receive a project from Odeal by the end of this year (insert eye emoji), he flexes his artistry once again on his latest offering: a melodious Afropop-infused track centered around the theme of infatuation. With Diamond Clear creatively led visuals that go hand in hand with the nostalgia of the track, we see the tale of young love play out in the 90s roller disco setting.

  1. Barry Jhay – Shako

With production influenced by the global Amapiano sound, Barry Jay is unrelenting in his release of consistent hits. Guaranteed to make you want to dance and vibe, Barry Jhay flaunts his ability to wield lyrics that mesh well with the instrumentation, resulting in the perfect afrobeat track. Listen to yourself if you do not believe how truly irresistible ‘Shako’ is.

  1. Jonzing World featuring Rema x D’Prince x Ruger – One Shirt

Since his signing earlier this year, Ruger has seen so much growth. Speaking on this track about his life struggles and his hustle mentality, Ruger has certainly come far from wearing ‘One Shirt’. In a collaboration between the Jonzing World label mates, we get a tantalizing verse from Rema and D‘Prince also graces the track with his presence.

  1. Ninety – Touch and Follow

Bringing something new to the afrobeat genre, which is usually oversaturated with similar-sounding tracks, Ninety from Port Harcourt so expertly flows over the lush instrumentation. The track, bound by no genre, where R&B, afrobeats, and afro-fusion seamlessly intertwine to form one flawless hybrid, is leading the new wave of sounds from Nigeria.

  1. Juls featuring Sam Wise, Kadiata and Knucks – Wicked

A song I personally cannot get enough of, this collaboration is the epitome of Black British excellence. With Juls’ aptitude to set the vibrations from the first beat, he masterfully constructs a fluid, fresh track from the onset. He enlists the assistance of London’s coldest spitters, each bouncing off each other’s energies with their playful witty bars. They ate and left not one crumb.

  1. Fasina featuring Bridge – Mixed Signals

The gentle, intoxicating rhythms of ‘Mixed Signals’ are at just the right vibrations to draw you in. As part of the contemporary wave of alternative music coming from the continent, both genre-benders work to push the boundaries of non-conformism within the afro-fusion sound. Their soft and sensual lyricism only adding to the tracks’ allure.
