The Kumerica movement Asakaa was by far the highlight of the last two quarters of 2020.
The drill-inspired “Asakaa Drill” movement saw young artistes like Kawabanga set the pace with Akatafoc which instantly became a fan favourite following up with Yaw Tog’s Sore! a massive hit globally which currently has a remix featuring Kwesi Arthur and Stormzy. Some would say this served as a massive boost to the movement. The movement has seen its viral moments in Kofi Jamar’s “Ekorso”, Jay Bhad’s “Condemn”, Sean Lifers’ “Ma Drip” and more.
The likes Kwaku DMC, o’Kenneth, Reggie, Cityboy, Okese1, Kwesu Smoke, Bosom Pyung and more also came with their own forces to make their voice heard and taking over the news with a breath of fresh sounds and raw rap. “Saka” is the vernacular on the streets in Kumasi derived out of Twi. You’re hyped, right?
