NEW SOUNDS – WEEK 32

Each week, we accumulate a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear because music is the only universal language of peace and love. Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week and don’t forget who put you on these sounds.

This list will be updated every day with new sounds released this week till Sunday.

Koffee – Pressure 

The world has seen a lot in 6 months than it has in a decade. The constant oppression of Black people which led to the Black Lives Matter movement has seen a lot of creatives express their opinions on the matter. Jamaican reggae singer/songwriter Koffee has unleashed a new song titled “Pressure”. The song and visuals depict the need for Black people to stay together and fight for equality and unity. 

Lous and the Yakuza featuring Hamza – Laisse Moi (Leave Me) 

Marie-Pierra Kakoma, known professionally as Lous and the Yakuza, is a Congolese-Belgian singer, rapper, songwriter, model, and artist. Lous’ new single “Laisse Moi” which translates to “Leave Me” features Belgian rapper Hamza, the track is a summer gift to music lovers. The love song sends a message out to people to let go when they don’t feel loved, with its catchy chorus “Laisse Moi” teaches us never to lower our guards in the name of love. Lous prepares to release her debut album GORE in October.

CKay & De La Ghetto –  Love Nwantiti (Spanish Remix)

Nigerian star CKay collaborates with Latin American star De La Ghetto for a transAtlantic meeting with a difference. The two bring their undeniable talent and ability to blend genres together for the Spanish remix of the already viral single ‘Love Nwantiti’.  Originally released by the legendary Nigerian label Chocolate City, “Love Nwantiti” has already garnered over 10 million streams globally, as CKay has his best year yet.  Now licensed exclusively to Warner Music South Africa for the World this Spanish Remix featuring De La Ghetto is the first of 6 International remixes slated for release throughout August.

Herman $uede – One by One 

Three years ago, Herman made his debut with “Be Mine”, he’s 17 now and continues to make progress in the Ghanaian music scene. His latest release “One by One” sees him expressing his intentions to win the heart of a beautiful girl one step at a time hence the title “one by one” which means winning his lover one day at a time or one step at a time. 

Kweku William  – Somebody Daughter 

“Somebody Daughter” by Ghanaian-American artist Kweku William is a mid-tempo afro-pop song with a romantic theme, depicting the narrative of a “tough boy in love”, which K. William penned inspired by a love interest as well as his strong mother and two loving sisters. On this song, K. features Reynolds The Gentleman, a singer-songwriter and producer based in Accra, Ghana. The song also features one of Ghana’s finest guitarists Jeff Attakorah (aka the Ghanaian Blues Man) who elevates the song with the dulcet tones of his electric guitar. Listeners can expect to be serenaded by K. William’s well-modulated and mesmerizing vocals along with Reynold’s melodic voice. 

NLMGNM – What Keeps You Going

What keeps NLMGNM going? What is his main motivation for life? ”I have always been fascinated about what a lot of people call ‘IMPOSSIBILITY’, the rapper and producer said, ”for me, I chose a destiny so big that, the only thing that keeps me going is making the impossible possible and these impossibilities are the key points in my life”. Food for thoughts. 

Tulenkey – Link Up

Ghanaian rapper Tulenkey is out with a new jam titled “Link Up”.  The M. O. G produced Beatz is a solid party anthem for his fans and music lovers at large. Tulenkey wants us all to forget our stress, link up, and have a party, I mean we can’t do that now but when it’s completely safe to party, we are definitely jamming to this song. 

Danybazz – For Real

“For Real ” is a new song released by Nigerian Afrofusion act, Danybazz, belting about his unflinching love for a lady who he doesn’t want to be with anyone else except him. He promises to “treat her right” and so he vents about his jealousy when he sees her with another guy. The song is heavy on its EDM & Caribbean influences. The song was produced, mixed, and mastered by Craze. 

Kiienka -Grateful 

Port Harcourt-based rapper Kiienka released two singles dubbed “Tables Turn” and “Gotta” which features SGaWD. Kiienka comes through with a collection of 2 trap-infused Hip Hop singles, which are both self-produced. His signature deft rap flows inspired by Atlanta-style rap, layered psychedelic beats, and speaker bumping baselines, as well as braggadocio, are all heavily present in both songs as Kiienka repeatedly boasts of his wins pointing out the ones who said he would fail are now his fans.

Nesta Ali – Sexy

Afrofusion and Trap artist Nesta Ali has released an Afrobeats record titled “Sexy”. A unique sound destined to turn heads with its trap influence and imaginative lyrics from the young Sierra Leonean/Ghanaian Singer/Rapper and songwriter. Produced by VT of Kingsville records the song has a great west African bounce as well as a worldwide appeal. 

Kawabanga featured O’Kenneth, Reggie and Jay Bhad – Akatafoc 

“Akatafoc” is a Ghanaian slang that translates to a fashionable lifestyle, a fashionista, or a dripster ( also slang for anyone who likes to dress in designer clothes and a lot of accessories). The song is a drill-inspired song by a group of Ghanaian music acts who go by the name ‘Kumericans’, (a title for anyone whose music is inspired by the America Drill genre) derived from Kumasi (a town in Ghana) and America. In the song they talk about, the need to work hard for survival, lifestyle, their gang/group, and a lot more. Stream and Enjoy “Akatafoc” by the Kumericans. 

Dj Tunez featuring Wizkid, Adekunle, Omah Lay – Pami 

From “Cool Me Down” with  Wizkid to “Pami” which features Wizkid, Adekunle Gold, and Omah Lay, Dj Tunez definitely knows how to put the best acts together. Wizkid gives us the perfect opener and chorus for this song, giving us vibes as he did in Cool Me Down. Adekunle takes over after the chorus and gives us the AG baby vibes we’ve been experiencing lately, Omah Lay takes the baton and doesn’t let it down at all. “Pami” is a hit, listen and enjoy. 

Dj Cuppy featuring Stonebwoy – Karma 

“Karma” is the second song off Dj Cuppy’s upcoming album which will be released next week. The first song “Jollof On The Jet” is still receiving its glory and we really cannot wait to listen to the album. The Killertunes produced “karma” features Ghanaian reggae/dancehall music act Stonebwoy. 

Mawcom X – Pure ft Spacely

Mawcom X’s new single “Pure” is off his upcoming joint tape with Ghanaian producer Kuvie. The song features Spacely and it is nothing but good vibes. In these times if you’re trying to keep any type of energy around you, it has to be pure and positive, no bad mind, no negativity, you gotta surround yourself with people who inspire good vibrations, people who help to keep your sanity pure and positive. 

Projects

Burna Boy – Twice as Tall

When Burna Boy released “African Giant”, we all knew he was up to something bigger. His highly anticipated project “Twice as Tall” is his fifth studio album and the album is already making waves. Executive Produced by American Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, the 15-track album features Stormzy, Sauti Sol, Youssou N’Dour, Chris Martin, and Naughty by Nature. The album is a celebration of Africa, Pan – Africanism, Black art and Black culture, the need for unity, and the need for Black people and Africans to own up to who they really are.

Rvdical The Kid – Little Planet EP

“Rvdical’s Little Planet EP” sees the Accra-based producer and DJ collaborating with some of his favorite artists from all across the globe, including Ghanaian-American songstress Amaarae, Canadian-Nigerian rising star Nonso Amadi, Harlem-based Cameroonian newcomer Yonkwi, Pigeons & Planes, and  LA-based alt-pop musician Maesu. Together, they have delivered a glorious 5-track offering, which weaves Rvdical’s intricate soundscapes, groovy textures, and colourful rhythms, together with exquisite vocals, bright and infectious melodies, and captivating songwriting. From Amaarae on the ethereal ‘Nasa’, and Nonso Amadi on the dreamy R&B-tinged ‘Often’, to Yonkwi on the bouncy hip-hop fusing ‘Skimp On The Shrimp’, and Maesu on the soulful alternative leaning ‘Rosemary’, the EP introduces listeners to Rvdical’s ‘Little Planet’ where everyone is allowed to be their quintessential selves.

Teephlow – Road To Phlowducation 2

Road To Phlowducation 2 is Teephlow’s recent project, the 9-track tape is a lead to his main album which will be released later. Rap fanatics will agree with me that Teephlow is one of the best rappers in Ghana and on this project, he featured Kirani Ayat, Amerado Burner, Lyrical Joe and Kwe. His rhyming skills and lyricism is everything to write home about. Put this tape on repeat as we get ready for Phlowducation.

Blac Cousins – Pillow Talk

Ms Fu and Anae connect as Blac Cousins to present their debut project, ”Pillow Talk”. The two artists, despite being thousands of miles apart, took full control in creating this illustrious body of work – straight up from its writing to production. ”Pillow Talk” covers a soulful soundscape, with Ms Fu and Anae sharing their perspectives on a host of topics. The 11-track EP consists of 5 songs and 6 podcast Esque soundbytes serving as commentary, shedding extra insight on the concept of each tune. With empowering records like ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Closure’ in the thick of the mix, every song on the project is blessed with production that’s absolutely contagious.
